Pre-Game Talk: Game 82: Canadiens v. Canes, 4/16/25 @ 7PM

Well it comes down to game #82. Fitting for this Habs season with the amount of games they've looked dead and come back to win in the 3rd period.

This is what you've played for all season. A chance to clinch a playoff berth on home ice. The math is simple, you know what needs to be done.

There is no tomorrow. This is what you've dreamed of as a kid, a chance to play for the Stanley Cup. You leave everything on the ice.

No excuses.

Another music rehearsal tonight, and, unlike Monday, I can't accidentally/deliberately show up late. That means I'm probably going to miss the entire game. Maybe it's for the best. Best case is we win tonight, which translates to, "Thank god we didn't embarrass ourselves". Not exactly a Plan-The-Parade moment.

I want to watch the Habs win something new rather than not lose something they almost had.

Today is the day.

Never thought this season would come to the last day. I had predicted an 84 point season (as a successful climb up the ladder). I was hoping they would be fighting until around mid-March. Well, it’s now game f***ing seven of the season. As Bourque would have said, we need the two points tonight. Actually, one. But let’s get the W, against a puke 🤮 organisation.

Let’s go red!

If they can't find the motivation to play a full 60 minutes with the season on the line, the rebuild is not over and more changes will have to be made.
Depends what you mean by "Not over". With our young, developing roster, what's needed most of all is time. This same team a year more mature and with Demidov is already a playoff team. Let them learn how to pace themselves over a full season and we won't see those prolonged slumps.

Of course that doesn't mean we're done. We need Reinbacher, we need Fowler or Dobes to solidify goaltending, we need a trade/signing for a 2C. Moves need to be made. But most of the pieces are already in place, either on the team or a year away from joining.

Id better not read “no changes to the lineup”.

Heineman should be in
Get Laine the hell off Demidov’s line
Get Laine the hell off the first PP unit!
Good luck did you not hear MSLs interview where he was asked about playing Demidov on the 1st line and 1st PP unit ? " I'm the coach, I'll do what I want" 'C'est moi le coach, je fais ce que je veux."

I really want Montreal to make the playoffs but I'm hating MSL more and more via these stupid replies and asinine lineup and player management decisions!!!!

Personally, I'd start the game with Anderson-Dvorak-Slafkovsky and tell Anderson and Slafkovsky on their first shift to go and hit everything that moves.

It's a meaningless game for Carolina, let them feel the intensity and physicality at a level they don't want to be interested playing against.

Can we blame Laine for his comments earlier in the season that helped spark tbe Blue Jackets turnaround?

I’m just going to go ahead and do so
With hockey, in interviews you can almost never speak the truth........when you do it gives another team motivation..........he set them on fire. That's on him...........

Laine is so talented, and seems so dumb. He is a drama queen with a great shot.

Win or lose tonight and it'll be a very important lesson for the youngest team in the league.

I know I sure wouldnt want the taste of defeat in my mouth all summer.
I won't lie, since Chicago's putrid performance I already have the taste of defeat in my mouth, no clue how they rally to win against Carolina after that and there's no way Columbus loses tomorrow.
Hope I'm wrong!

Do we know who’s in net for Carolina? Who they’re sitting?

I've had a bad feeling since last week that the spirit of Johnny G (RIP) would come to hunt us. At least the canes will be sitting some regulars for tonight's game and that gives me some hope we could make it. I'm not expecting columbus to lost to the isles unless Sorokin gets in and plays an awesome game for them.

Besides Demidov, the team look tired and done from what I saw, I hope they had enough rest to at least reach OT. I hope I'm wrong.
