He sees that the season ticket base is going down, and walk up crowds is not a good business model. Every empty seat costs him money re ticket cost, potential merch, food and drink. I told my wife months ago when the Jets were floundering and people were talking about letting their season tickets go that this would be the tact that TNSE would take and to not read nothing in to it.

Probably true, but it shows how arrogant as an organization that they have become. They think that the not so subtle threat of the team leaving is going to make people buy tickets when in reality its already blowing up in their faces. Media like Scott Billeck are already amplifying the voices of angry fans and its only going to get worse.
