You know I am a little disappointed with a lot of you. McElhinney played some big games for us, especially when Bob was sick, and gave us a chance to be in the position we are in now.

He did his job. He earned this start and deserves our respect and appreciation. This is likely his last taste of anything resembling post season play. He could very well end up back in the AHL next season.

I don't care if he gives up 10 goals tonight. I'll be cheering him and I hope that we can get out of the mindset we are in and get behind the player. If he has a bad game and loses, I hope we're mature enough to thank him for his time and move on to the next game.

I'm kind of tired of the way that we've treated this guy. He's a Jacket. He's been a great citizen. He's been professional. He knows his role and doesn't complain. He's 10-10-1.

Now, continue on.

I think he'll be the first goalie ever to start a game in both the Olympics, NHL, AHL, and ECHL if he starts tonight.

Edit: Lindback starts.

Hey guys Tampa fan here, who wants to stop by and say good luck for tonight, I really like the way you guys are playing the last few games.

For the Tampa lineup:
Cooper just addressed the media with the news that they have nothing decided yet, however that there could be huge gametime changes compared to yesterdays roster, but they are not sure yet. Might send Gudlevskis in the crease.
So there is a good chance they will give some guys a chance to get their feet wet after a few games off. We also just called up a 20 year old rookie pro forward from Syracuse for no reason (injury, etc), so we might send out three kids to make their debuts (Kunyk, Gudlevskis and the recalled Paquette).

Anyways don't want to spam your guys board, I hope for an entertaining game tonight and all I have seen in the last few games from you guy it absolutly will be one

I'm going to go with a "dick" post and tell CMac thanks for doing your job.

I swear I'm going to open a McElhinney appreciation thread (not really).

In all seriousness though, I'm not looking for a parade for this guy. I'm not even looking to re-sign him. I just think we should give him a little more credit and not hammer him all the time.

Well said. I've been disappointed with the way he's been treated as well. I don't like the name "McBackup", he really played well in a lot of the games we needed him when Bob was hurt and was outstanding against Detroit. I hope he has a great game tonight!

How has he been mistreated? Where is this imaginary persecution coming from?

The Jackets have not won a single game vs the Bruins or Pittsburgh this season, 0-7-1 I believe. In my mind playing the Rangers if possible is critical to build upon the momentum surrounding the organization of late, I would have started Bob..

That said McElhinney has done a fine job lately and the team seems to play well for him.. we might be ok, if we win Bob would start tomorrow I'd assume.

If we were to lose tonight and Flyers win tomorrow afternoon in reg or ot, i would start Cmac tomorrow as well since we couldn't pass them then.

I'm sure the players in the room don't refer to him by that name. I'm just not a fan of it, seems derogatory to me when he's played some good hockey for us and is a part of the reason we are in the playoffs.

It's easyer to spell than McElhinney... :) I don't think there is any disrespect in using the nickname, when he's a starter it will be McStarter.. ;)

I'm talking about on here, calling him "McBackup" As i stated in my post. And everybody always freaking out if he's playing.

I don't see how that nickname is disrespectful in any way. He's the back up goalie and his name is Mc.

He's not exactly a high end backup. He's definitely had some good games and some shaky ones....but all in all I think it's normal for fans to worry about when the backup is in, especially when it's the CBJ and every point mattered.

Peter Budaj is pretty bad, but he doesn't play that much and Montreal's spot was pretty secure, so no big deal when he starts and plays bad. Columbus never really was in a position like that so I don't see anything to abnormal about worrying about the Mac/McKenna starts.

Nope. Bob plays tomorrow regardless. Gonna be 4-5 days before the first playoff game. Nice bonus rest today, play to stay sharp, then everyone gets a break.

No disrespect intended but for crying out loud when you're in this position you have to ice your best team. Unless Bob is hurt this makes nfs to me and never will (unless we win).

He's plenty sharp, I wouldn't risk it if there is nothing to play for. I actually would have played him tonight instead. But I'm confident Cmac will show up!

Yeah, you're probably right.. this goalie business as always been a probability gig in my mind.. The "guess who starts" game has gone on for decades, I'd still start Bob today though and worry about rest/stay sharp or whatever later.. ;)

Yes. He's been a great guy to have on our team. No offense to Dubie, but Hitch didn't seem to trust him--or maybe didn't trust his size?-- and we rode Mason to death that first playoff season. We have a serviceable backup who is more than capable of getting a W tonight. I didn't expect to see him until tomorrow, but what do I know?

Very excited for tonight. Attended the January game at N-wide, but Stamkos was injured. Tampa is a fun team to watch and I think this should be a pretty fun game, with both teams having something to play for at the end. Go Jackets!

Hope the boys keep pushing, we need to get that #3 Metro seed or get creamed in the first round.
