Dylan Strome nets a hat trick and twabby's game puck. A nice night's work.

Charlie Lindgren, Alex Ovechkin, and Alex Alexeyev earn honorable mentions.

Islanders looked like they were in scrimmage mode and then I remembered they were elimanted from playoff contention.

Favorite play was watching Willy make a drop pass to CMM...who he already knew was off his skates. I guffawed for several moments.

He may very well leave (KHL) or ask out.
Management/Alexyev's agent could come to agreement they won't qualify Alexeyev, which would then make him a UFA instead of a RFA. I think for Alexeyev it would best to move on and sign with another NHL team. If no team has interest, then I would think he would move on to the KHL. It would be disappointing a bit, but this happens to NHL prospects from time to time. A less likely scenario could be where the Caps trade his rights or package him in a summer trade deal for something else.

They just won’t do that. Alexeyev is a valuable asset. The caps will want something for him. He is an nhl caliber defenseman even if not for caps. Still an asset.

He's a 5/6 D on many other teams, just not on this team. If for whatever reason we hadn't added Roy and Chych, he would have been playing here every night. But because we had room to make upgrades, he took the lumps.

Which horrible teams have a worse number 5? I can’t imagine many. Anyway doesn’t matter.

It’s not like we have a blue line full of HOFers he can’t get past. He’s been given ample playing time and can’t hold onto a starting spot.

I think some of you overrate AA.

He's not worth much, but he's also not worthless. There are definitely a few older teams down in the standings (Nash, Pitt, and NYI spring to mind) who would probably be willing to give up a mid-round draft pick for a 25 year old who has played well in spurts.

This is the league where Buffalo gave up the pick that turned into Cole Hutson for Malenstyn. You never know.

Definitely never said he was worthless. He could steal a bottom pair role in the right situation.

I could see him ask out for opportunities elsewhere or go KHL. I think the Caps would accommodate him.

We already know Kuzy was counseling him to leave years ago. Who knows who this guy listens to? Also now that the chase is over, less reason to stick here (unless he’s just content and loves it here).

AA is an unknown to me like Ilorio.

Tall D guys who play tall and stiff

We saw a lot more of AA last year but I would question how well he could handle a strong forecheck .. puck retrieval, quick decisive decision making, correct decision making

It was a very nice problem to have in not having to play him this year bc we stayed mostly healthy

But I would like to see him get a fair chance next season

It’s a catch 22. Want to see him play but don’t want injuries.

I like your comparison to Iorio. I think that is our 7-8 next year. We still won’t have any LD depth next year so we need Alexeyev. Iorio is likely going to get passed by Chelsey.

I wonder if the the Oilers would have trade interest in Alexeyev, as they need D depth? Maybe package Milano + Alexeyev for a young forward? I really don't see a future for either player on this team for next season.
