Probably the first one since the deadline where I've thought "really, you had to win that one?" But the Pens completely mailed it in and the Bruins, to their credit, did not, so here we are. At least there's no harm done in the standings yet. And I'm happy for Lysell, he's earned that goal with some better play in the last couple of games. Hopefully it helps to build his confidence.

Good for Korpisalo too. Curious to see what happens with him from here. He's been decent. Don't think Goalie Bob worked any miracles with him, but he's been solid enough and given the team a fair chance in the vast majority of his starts. A fair return for a backup. But he had limited outings and was heavily sheltered from the top teams and he still costs more than the Bruins ideally should be spending on their 2nd guy, especially if they plan to keep giving Sway two-thirds of the starts. So do they try and move him? And would Joonas himself like to try and find somewhere that will give him more responsibility? At only age 30 and having partially rebuilt his reputation, you'd have to think he might.

Will award the 7th player at the game. It had better be Geekie
Should our second leading goal scorer be our seventh player? He would definitely already be in our top six. I would go with Kastelic, although he has been out of the lineup for a while. Maybe Peeke.

It is for the player who did above and beyond and wasn't a top player at the start of the season.

IMO it should be Geekie

If the second leading scorer went from 3rd-4th line duties to 1st line and doubled his goals/points from last season, then yeah. That's the very definition of the 7th Player Award.

I never hope for anything but a win . I know that the draft position is important but I simply cannot sit and watch the Bruins and hope for a loss. Not in my DNA
I'm finding out it's not in my DNA either, so I watched quite a bit of the Masters yesterday, and only bits and pieces of the game

..but they really need to mail it in next game (like Pittsburgh did yesterday) ..because there's absolutely no upside to a win on Tuesday

I've always felt better about the award when it went to a player who is generally unheralded. A bottom six guy who impacts the game far more than their station would imply.

But even considering this bias, how does one deny Geekie the award this year? Like, it's just not even a competition.

I thought it was Kastelic for awhile, but Geekie has been on a tear since the four nations. Think he’s like 5th or 6th in goals scored the entire league in that time frame.

To me, that's more in the spirit of the award. It has to be Geekie.

I think Lohrei deserved some consideration as well. Yes, he has a TON to work on in the D Zone and the giveways are mind-boggling sometimes, but he stepped up on the PP big time in McAvoy & Lidstrom absences and performed above and beyond my expectations for him this year (despite the -43)
