There's a dropoff after 11 in my mind...there are 9 studs, and then Mrtka and Smith should creep their way into the top 10 due to positional need...

So yeah, if we're picking 13 or 14 I don't see much top of the lineup potential, which we clearly need

Dude. People have typed this dozens of times. Viability starts probably next year and has a window that will not need to be fed by prospects. 10-11-12 doesn't matter this year. By the time they'd hit the AHL/NHL ice there will be star-level players burning Stevie's phone up to come to the Wings.

And I've typed a bunch that team growth is more than just Statis-Pro spreadsheet hockey. There are intangibles. For instance, McLellan now gets a few more games where the only pressure is coming from HIM. Who responds? He has a "perfect" player type in this 3-game series in mind, probably. Is it someone who is goofy-cheery like I am in here most of the time, projecting a "the last 80 games didn't bug me that much" attitude? Some morose "I'm out of here and don't care" guy? Some middle of the road "I'm mad but still determined every minute" type?

I don't know. But these are valuable games, too valuable to just tank and hope for a "maybe" that's 3 years off.
