Post-Game Talk: GAME 80 - Chicago 5 BRUINS 2

The three stars are math only: literally how many times the players have been voted stars of the game. I believe Swayman ended up there because they had to remove all the votes for Marchy and that skewed the numbers
I figured Marchand being traded skewed it, but it still seems wrong. Kind of does show you how little talent we had left though.

That was some high quality tanking there.

Swayman showing why he deserves to be named the second star for his play this season. Not. I mean did anyone else find that weird? Not even third star but ahead of Geekie second star. Based on what? Maybe 3 games? THIS SEASON how on earth does he get named second best player on the team? This bugged me.

So weird to be happy about losing a game.
I was stunned to see Swayman get the 2nd star award for the season. He was not good at all and is the biggest concern for a rebound next season.

Who chooses these awards?

It is based on actual math.

They count up all of the stars awarded each game for the season.

Maybe if Brad was still on the Bs he would get one...He usually did.

The NHL star awards for games are absolutely nonsensical and meaningless. A guy can have an otherwise horrible night but if a puck bounces off his skate into the net he's a good chance to earn a star.

Sway will have 'earned' quite a few this year simply by having so many starts and playing on a team with a severe lack of offense beyond Pasta and Geeks.

Nothing against Geekie, but this is a microcosm of the Bruins season. Rather than safely dumping the puck deep behind the hawks net with a 1 - 1 tie in the the third, Geekie tries to force a pass back to the blue line with three hawks ready to break out of the zone. The pass was too hard to handle and Chicago recovers and breaks out going down the ice scoring the go ahead goal. Wonder what the out come would have been if he had dumped the puck deep instead?

Also, wonder why Sacco didn't call a time out to regroup after that goal, or especially after Chicago went up 3 - 1 so quickly?

Not that the game matters, other than the loss keeps Boston picking fourth at the moment. ... only two games left.

I don't think that's true in his case. Goalies have to be incredible to get a star in a loss, and Swayman has a lot of losses.
It just felt wrong cause we all know that his hold out and then crap play is a big part of why this season fell apart so fast. Not the only reason, but a big contributing factor.

If they were handing out medals to the MVT's (most valuable tankers)

Swayman, Lohrei and Sacco would be on the podium

Not so many at home. Only home games count for the stars awards. Sway was 14-11-3 in 28 home starts. I did a quick check through, and he earned a star in about half those wins, plus 2 narrow losses. That's a star in 8-9 home games. Who else apart from Pasta is getting more than that? Rule out the defenders because the star system is hopelessly biased against them. That leaves Marchand who's gone, Geekie who was close but apparently just behind, and maybe Zacha. No-one else on this team has produced with any sort of consistency.

To be fair to Sway, his home record has actually been ok - a .910 SV% is decent enough. His worst struggles have been on the road. But equally he's not been great, and certainly wouldn't be seen as the second-best home player on a team with any sort of decent roster. But with the star system loaded in his favor, his high start number, and the Bruins' lack of offense, this is what you get. Not totally unearned, but, as you said, it feels wrong.

Missed this one, not sad to see the final. We went to An Evening with Mark Hoppus at the Somerville Theatre.

Ticket came with a copy of his book, and I can’t wait to dive in.

If Swayman, had a heads up that he was getting an award he should have called in sick, shameful he went up there for that award. The sad part is he wants to know why he did not get the #1 star.

Hopefully the chemistry between Pasta and Geeks continues next year and they find them a center or Lindholm improves.

Geekie going from 7, 9, 17 goals in the previous years to 31 is pretty wild.

Wow you really hate the guy. When he bounces back next year can or will you give him credit because you are all over him with this bad season. It’s almost personal to you.

Is he overpaid. Likely but it’s not your money. Let it go man
