Hey remember when Dom L said maybe this team isn’t so good if the kids don’t progress and everyone mouthed off ?
The issue with this is the kids hve progressed. Sure, goals aren't there yet but theres no doubt in my mind Kakko and Laf look better than they did last season, and look like their playoff versions.
The issue here being our star players after the Anaheim game went cold, and they didn't just go cold, they decided to be shells of players in any part of their game.
Your top guys may not always get bounces of have 3 points a game, but they have GOT to be atleast creating something in terms of momentum or scoring chances to tilt the scales in your direction. A good shift for a top line without scoring just tires the opponent out, gets in their head, and only helps the next guys over the boards.
Top players HAVE to contribute to team success in other ways than just straight up goals, assists and points. Right now ours are not doing that.
Dom L said the issue would be the kids. It isn't. Miller, Kakko, Laf, Schneider, Jones, Chytil look fine. Our starts after the 4th game went cold.
This won't last a whole season, they will come out of this so theirs no reason to go nuclear and say the sky is falling. But judging how is their entire game that fell off a cliff and its not just puck luck and a cold SH%, if a streak like this decides so show up in a playoff series 1st round....thats a quick exit for a team that should go deep, because it seems we've finally figured out that whole "relying on Shesterkin" thing and become a favorable corsi team, even if we still give up too many high danger chances.
Anyways, don't panic yet. It's frsutrating for us and more for the organization that aren't just typing on HF Boards. But if our top guys don't figure out how to still be serviceable when pucks don't go in for them or the PP doesn't operate at 33% for an extended period....its not a great mix for a playoff team if a streak like this comes at the wrong time
