He's never played more than 33 games in a season before. It's a huge jump to go from that to playing every single night and being the guy relied on to carry the team.

82 starts or bust. :sarcasm:

He played at a starters rate last year, even if it was only a half season.

I'm not saying he isn't capable, or we shouldn't give him the chance, but it's tough to jump into that level of workload. There's no guarentee he will be able to handle it right away, so as long as Brodeur isn't terrible(which he has been so far), I'd err on the side of caution.

DeBoer said he thinks left wing Patrik Elias (flu), defenseman Bryce Salvador (left hip) and Stephen Gionta (blocked shot with outside of left knee) will all “be OK” to play Tuesday. DeBoer also said he will stick with Cory Schneider in net for Tuesday’s game after he posted the 22-save shutout Saturday. It will be the first time this season Schneider will start two games in a row. - See more at: http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/...start_again_in_columbus/#sthash.TM1UMvFs.dpuf

Shneids should DEF start tuesday ! Cory played well against the rags first win of the season his first shutout as a dev, let the guy ride his high.

Last night was the first game of the year I couldn't watch live. Good news is I'll be driving from Dallas to Chicago all day and night Tuesday. I sense two in a row! Nice to see Mark Fayne was returned safe and sound by his kidnappers.

With Sal and Gio a little banged up this would be the perfect time to use that depth.

please let gio take a couple months off for rest.

thats just ridiculous. if you watched the last few games, youd see the chemistry thats building again on that line- and gio is a big part of it. props to the poster here who defended gio when he wasnt doing well- youre absolutely right. i really dont see Gio as a dime a dozen player.

still shouldnt be taking faceoffs though.

Good win and solid goalkeeping.

#28 had his best game out of the past 60 months... but that type of "production" happens once every 4 years, so no, I don't think he'll turn his game around at all.

Let's just hope that we'll turn this ship around with a solid performance against our biggest rivals.

Me neither, it seems this board picks its scapegoat no matter how well the person plays.

I like Gio. Don't confuse wanting to play 1st round pick and superior player Josefson over him as hate. Lokti's playing time is in jeopardy somehow too because of Gio and that would be a crime to take him out in favor of Gio.

Gio has heart and plays balls out, but he's limited as a player in most other areas.
He's fine as a 4th liner on the CBGB line but for heavens sake get him off of the PK and do not put him out there in trying to protect a late lead.

According to TGs post it looks like it's Teddy/Josefson fighting for a spot.

Elias would slot in for Olesz and im guessing Olesz would slide down to the second line?

I think the problem with our board lately is that if you like one player or have some faith/compliment about their game, it automatically means you don't like or hate another player. That or if you say something positive about player A, that means payer B should be benched/scratched/traded/bought out/retire/banished to Elmira.

Is it safe to assume that most of the GIO hate here is mainly because of Pete putting him on the PK all the time? :sarcasm:

And whether he's an AHL'er or not, he's done a pretty admirable job considering his limited skillset. He's a gionta through and through...

There was a brief moment in the first period where Tedenby & Zuccerello were squared up with other players in a scrum.

How funny would a fight between them be?

Since you brought up Zuccarello, There was a thread over on the Rangers board asking if he was waived would he be claimed.

Automatically though of you when I saw that.

Reminds me when I was in 7th grade many years ago. We'd surround the two smallest kids and make them fight. I'm just grateful that I had hit a small growth spurt by then.

I don't hate gio the player, I hate the way deboer uses him, and it seems like the only way to stop it is for him to not be available. He shouldn't be on faceoffs, he shouldn't be on the pk.

i dont disagree with that
