A win tonight could clinch and keep the possibility of a Habs vs Leafs round 1 alive.

A regulation win.

They need 1 point to officially eliminate NYR, NYI & DET.

They need a regulation win to eliminate CBJ. Although they only need 2 pts in their final 4 games to eliminate them. But they can clinch their spot with a regulation win.

I don't think Demidov draws in until he at least gets on the ice once with them. Would be wild if he played tonight having not skated with the team....or any NHL players. Although if he did...he might score a hatty. lol.
I don't think there is a way he plays at best until the chicago game. Although, wouldn't be the worst idea to have him start on the road with a bit less pressure. He is still in TO, and most likely will join the morning skate with the team (if they have one) there. If not, he can skate with Arbs and work on accountability right off the bat.

Tkachuk is out, and we should be the hungrier team by far given that we have not clinched yet. I think that if we can play a decent 1st period and stay out of the penalty box, we win.
If they win tonight then the pressure is somewhat off and you give Dobes the start in Toronto. At this time of the year and with the playoffs on the line you have to consider Monty playing both weekend games if the Habs lose tonight.

I'm very slowly starting to come around to the Habs chances in the playoffs. I'm usually the overly optimistic one around here - but I just didn't see how we'd do well if we qualified. But Suzuki and especially Hutson's amazing play recently has made me a believer - and when you add Demidov on top of that, I could certainly see us surprise.

But the one thing this team lacks big time which puts it a massive step behind the 2021 team is Carey Price. Habs had no business beating Toronto - and Price stole that series, one of the best performances I've ever seen by a goalie. And he kept it up for 2 rounds afterwards, with Jets and Vegas.

I like Montembeault and happy he made the 4 nations and stuff - but I don't have a lot of faith in him as a goalie for a playoff run. I hope he does well - but I don't expect him to steal a series for us and I certainly don't expect him to have an all-time great performance as Price did.

Lol. Yeah its tough coordinating all the pieces.

For me its all a bonus at this point. But I am excited as you are. Every Hab fan is. The kids have cranked it up and just when you think it cant get any better than this, Demidov incoming, like right now.

Havent made the playoffs yet. Demidov hasnt lit it up to this point and we havent fought it out in round one. But thats all fine. Only way there is disappointment is if we dont clinch a spot, and thats only because of where this young team has gotten. Theyd be devastated. But thats not happening , this ride is not out of gas.

Completely hypothetical question...let's say the Habs choke and miss the playoffs, does Demidov get on a plane and head back to SKA? isn't that the way the agreement is written?

Luongo said it takes a week to recover from b2b, so assuming the playoffs don't start before this b2b, you probably could run Monty both games but hopefully everything is already resolved before that decision even needs to be made.

When/if the habs clinch, I'd shut Monty for the rest of the regular season. The habs have asked alot from him this year.

Why would you if you were Arbs? They sit you after a bad play, then want you to come back just to chuck fists? Talk about being used. Meanwhile Savard and MM just play like garbage with full immunity. The old boys club is alive and well in Montreal

Because it's my team and nobody touch my guys, especially not Lane to the f***ing head away from the puck.

He played 70/78 come on man.

He only goes back to SKA if the Habs somehow feels like he should be playing outside of the NHL because he can't cut it.
Which isn't going to happen.

If Habs win in regulation against the Sens today, they clinch a birth and Columbus is eliminated even if they win all their remaining games and ties the total point. The Habs own all the tie breaker in that case.
You’re right, but they can still pass the Sens. It just depends on who they prefer to play in round one. The Leafs might be the better matchup.
