There was still the possibility of tying Dallas and getting the WC2 spot from having more regulation wins than them. However, when Vegas beat Washington, it created the following scenarios when Dallas and Vegas play.

A Vegas regulation win over Dallas would pull them into a tie for the last WC spot. Vegas would win the tie breaker over Dallas and Winnipeg by having more regulation wins.
If Vegas won but in OT, Dallas gets a point and the WC2 spot is out of reach of the Jets.
If Dallas wins, they get two points and again, are out of reach.

Hmm... but if the Jets had won all their games and Dallas lost all their games, Dallas still would have had more Wins, more ROW and they won their season series against the Jets, so how could the Jets have passed them?
