Post-Game Talk: GAME 78 - Sabres 6 BRUINS 3

Be interesting to see if they let him walk rather than risk a bad contract for a season that didn't matter with no pressure playing with Pasta.

Lots of credit for the kid to capitalize but I would be very cautious with this one.

Geekie pretty clearly possess a goal scorers shot and has shown some convincing chemistry with Pastrnak. He is I believe 39th amongst F in Goals scored this year. Even at $6M\yr you should get your moneys worth. That would be about $5.5M on this years cap. There are risks in any signing but you have a known commodity who has improved each year.

I don't know, I am not him or his agent. I don't know what he is looking for. Why wouldn't he take it? Do you have some inside information on this?
Why would he take one extra year from an arb award at money basically around that number? Wouldn’t make any sense at all. You want to take me to arb and I get $4Mish then I’m a UFA? Fine. You want to give me several years of term and more money? Fine. But I’m not adding one year at low money in a rising cap after I scored 30 goals.

That's a reasonable take. That said, I don't know what Geekie is looking for, nor do I know what an arb award would look like or if he even gets there. What I do know is my own opinion and that is: if I am the Bruins GM, I don't go too far above that number, whether it's one year or two. His season has turned out great, and I really like the player, but I want to know he's more than a one-hit wonder before committing a lot of term and dollars.

I would not want to just open the bank to him but he has scored 46 goals in the past 2 seasons. That would put him 3rd overall on the team during this time and we sure need goal scorers.

I hope we can sign him to a reasonable contract 5.5 to 6m. With the cap going up 30 goal scorers are going to be looking for a healthy slice of the pie.

Pasta and him seem to have a chemistry that is working.

I want to keep him for sure and you are right that the team needs goal scorers and he seems to arrived. But going from 17 to likely 30 or a bit more is a big jump. How much is the Pasta effect? I am sure some, but I do want the team to be cautious in handing out big bucks, but more so term I think, in case he comes back to earth and is a 15-20 goal guy again.

Valid points, but I just hope they can somehow reach an agreement as we cannot lose another 30 goals on this team. Let's hope.

You are right, that is a big jump 17to 30, but he has increased his stats every year, that is a plus. Term is something that must be considered, we have made that mistake with older players, but I also think these NTC , contracts that Sweeney gives out like candy, does bother me.

He's an RFA at the end of the year but nonetheless the Bruins will have to open up the vault door a bit wider for him.
Popping in two more goals before season end would work in his favor and look better come negotiations.
Presently make 2 million....5 or over would not be out of the question. I'd also throw in a nice set of Golf clubs.

Then head to arbitration and milk the last rfa year out of him

Sweeney would never do something like that:sarcasm:

Then you have dumbdumbs like Doobass of the leafs taking guys like Matthews, Marner and Nylander from the league minimum to 12 mil, 11 mil, and 7 mil who were all RFA's.
No in between.Wheelbarrows of cash.
Now the leafs will likely lose Marner as a UFA this July as their top 5 guys eat about 50%+ of the Cap

Doobass is now in Pittsburgh destroying that franchise.
