It's not that uncommon elsewhere in Europe either, but not as systemic as it was in SU. Plenty of German clubs for an example (West-German ones as well) that have their origins in specific organizations (Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg come to mind immediately). I don't really get the "thank god that's not done outside of SU" comment. Sports teams form around communities. A company or an organization is just as good as a bunch of friends coming together to find a sports club, at least IMO looking at it 100 years after.It's a Bolshie/Commie thing and thank god NA/Western Europe doesn't have it. It's ugly.
