GDT: Game 76: Sharks vs. Kraken 7:00pm NBCSCA

I’m just done with the season. Losing is fine, but the last few months has been just as bad as last season. They aren’t competing, the coach is unwilling to give players a go to keep playing the same established losers.

This club have given Goodrow a f***ing A for f***s sake.

Man, what an awful performance for fan appreciation night. I was literally just asking for 2-3 goals and a competitive match. Our defense is embarrassing. My sister saw Steph up close. About the only positive. Eklund fight was lit.

A first and a B+ prospect for Mario and a 4th since he loves giving those away.
You think they coulda gotten a 1st for mario and didnt take it!!?? if so, then grier reallly sh*t the bed. Thats a no brainer.

Obviously no way to settle the debate either way, but I totally disagree. I bet he got a few mid round pick type offers (3rd or 4th and so so prospect) and decided it's not worth it. If you could get a 1st for ferraro, you gotta take that in an instant. hard to believe that ferraro would have equal value as walman. I dont buy it.

Curry only shows up for fan appreciation game. What a casual.

Eklund fighting because the Sharks goons aren't doing it. Pretty lame as he could mess up his hands. He should be smarter than that.

They should return Thompson as well. And if they aren’t going to play Kovalenko, he can play there too.
Thompson is up because they have no one else! I mean, Lucas karlsson is in there. Who else would you call up?

They should be playing kovalenko over grund/dyl/goodrow...

And they could also send down Ostapchuk and play kostin and kovy. Two rfas who could have been qualified and dealt. Eh, i guess its just rearranging the deck chairs on some famous boat.

You can't just trade everyone. What are you gonna do the last 20 games of the season, run out Liljigren as your top D-man?

Not everything is about "getting first round picks".

Smith went back to brain farting. Thrun is barely NHL caliber if at all. And Mack tried his nest but for nothing because no one can f***inf finish. The 4th line was god awful and the fame just wasn't fun to watch or be at. Mostly because I was in a punching someone in face mood that entire game

Schudt can replace Thompson in the lineup. Thompson would be a good add for the Barracuda. If they’re forced to call someone up, you do Furlong. Even if he hasn’t earned it, you can do it in case of emergency.

I don’t understand the point of benching a rookie like Kovalenko. I wouldn’t understand with Ostapchuk either. Play them somewhere at the very least.

You bring up all the kids and let 'em play. Thrun, Cagnoni, Mukh, Thompson, Carlsson, Schuldt... let em play. You lose a bunch? so what, you wanna tank anyway and they get good NHL experience.

At this point, you trade everyone who isn't part of your longer term plan if the return is good enough. A first for ferraro is very very good enough, and you definiely dont turn down a first to keep a guy for 20 meaningless games that you mostly want to lose anyways.

Goodrow aside, I don't care for the handling of Ostapchuk at this point. He isn't ready for the NHL, and should be put in a position to succeed if the organization actually wants him to turn into "someone who helps you win in the playoffs." Today was his 9th game as a Shark and the first time he registered a shot on goal. Shouldn't be all the surprising since he only had 20 with Ottawa in 43 games, but that's a warning sign for sure. He's also not pking, fighting or winning draws at a decent clip, and he's only playing 9 minutes. So I'm not sure what they're trying to help him develop into.

I look at it like Rock climbing. You can't give a bunch of youngsters a rope and say "good luck!"

You still need mentors and right now the defense has none. Vlasic is completely checked out and what else do you have, Ruuta?

Remember, the backend affects the forwards, and you're seeing it now, the detriments of nothing back there. The PP is putrid.

Mario's got another year left. He'll probably be traded next deadline.

Thrun is not NHL caliber. He'll make the team next year out of camp and be given a spot, but he's on his way to being a Jimmy Schuldt type. Unless something drastically changes.

If Mario is the ‘mentor’ then this club is completely screwed..

The last several years have been tough and right now I’m really questioning my commitment to this franchise. Grier really needs to step up before next season and give us some hope. These recent games have been the worst!

That’s going to depend on how you define some hope. We’re going to have a rookie goalie, probably a rookie defenseman, a second year top four defenseman that hasn’t played a full season, with only Ferraro and Liljegren as NHL caliber defensemen. We will have three second year forwards at a minimum in the top nine between Celebrini, Graf, and Smith. Of which the latter two still need to work on their consistency over a whole NHL season. We have no discernible identity for a bottom six beyond the possibility that Graf will be a part of it. We have a good chunk of wingers that could make next year’s lineup too.

That’s a team very likely to lose even if we get the acquisitions to fill what kids won’t.

Macklin is significantly better than everyone on this team and it's not remotely close.

That's my takeaway from being at this game.
That's damning considering well... he was just pedestrian by most standards. Rest of the team is just garbo. This game was just shades of last year. And has been for a month or two now. That's regression/stalling. Not hopeful whatsoever

I guess not, but he had to imagine this would happen and this game should be viewed as a cautionary tale that he needs to make strides this offseason or run the risk of the team enduring the same frustrated stagnancy as Chicago.
I don't think Chicago is "stagnant," they're just bad in the same way and on the same timeline as we are.
