It's incredible that Rangers brass and Gallant actually think Harpur over Jones gives them a better chance to win.

Only way they could bring up Jones is if they were to use LTIR. Jones has a $925K cap hit which is above the $850K max for emergency callups and they don't have any room for regular callups without removing someone else from the roster.

The NHL culture has a 'slow and steady' bias in looking for third pair defensemen, and it has robbed guys with a real potential to play as 3rd pairing puck movers and 2nd unit PP contributors from having NHL careers.

Rafa Diaz, Adam Clendening, Zac Jones, Tomas Poeck, Tarmo Reunanen- each probably deserved a slightly longer leash than what they got compared to guys like Stu Bickel, Ben Harpur, Alexei Semenov, heck even someone like Steve Kampfer.

He’s ready for another try. Games don’t matter much and our breakouts against tougher teams are mostly laughable.


Buuuuut Harpur is a known entity for Gallant- will get hemmed in the d zone, won’t do much in the O zone, won’t turn D to O, but also won’t really cause any terrible turnovers leading to odd man rushes which most of the NHL coaches fear with their lives. Jones, as a relatively unknown, scares the shit out of Gallant.

I truly appreciate it. I have a meeting with national management on Wednesday to discuss a promotion into a management position for the NY office and these past 3 quarters with the motivation of a new child have propelled me to this point, so this last quarter being really successful was very meaningful for me. The transition out of the military wasn’t smooth - took me a few years, but I’ve finally got solid footing.
