GDT: GAME 75 | Lightning @ Senators | Get Back on Track Edition | Thu Apr 3 2025, 7PM | RDS2, TSN5

And even if that line had a poor game, Perron was the best of the 3 tonight and doesn’t deserve to be relegated to the 4th line. He’s been very good lately.

Zetterlund has done literally nothing to bump down Perron who stirs the drink on that Cozens line. They are succesful because Perron is a dawg on the forecheck and wins a lot of puck battles.

I could see that line not doing well at all with Zetterlund.
Batherson stirs the drink as far as I’m concerned, not Perron.

Don’t really see the harm in experimenting. Being rigid with the lines is a pointless exercise if the team isn’t scoring enough, it’s not like you can’t move Perron right back if Zetterlund doesn’t work out. The idea is to try and get more players going.

I'd like to see a Cousins - Halliday - MacEwan 4th line. Ott doesn't have another legitimate centre available in their org for their 4th line other than Halliday C & as the leading scorer in Belleville has some offence to his game & adds to the strength down the middle. I don't know if Cousins will return to form by the playoffs, but he would be a great addition for the playoffs & an upgrade on that 4th line. MacEwan brings some added toughness that might keep Brady out of the box & in front of opposition nets where he belongs. Both Cousins & MacEwan are fast enough, hit, play on the PK, block shots & can stir some shit up.

Don't blame me, I bought a ticket and waited an hour-and-a-half in traffic to watch that Avs game a couple weeks ago!
I post pathetic as I’m sitting from home

Disappointing though, I’m sure the management envisioned these games as sellouts or close to it, this late in the season and in a battle for a playoff spot.

Glad to see Ullmark have a real solid bounce back game. Greig was simply a beast out there tonight. He stepped up big in the captains absence and in my opinion played a Tkachuk type of game.

Well, this team has finally taken another step forward in their development solidly in a playoff position & 5 pts ahead of the next closest team. We have three good lines, the defence is good when healthy, Kleven & Matin[palo have stepped up to become a shutdown tandem which we needed & when Ullmark & Forsberg are on they are very good too.

People are saving money for those $6000 playoff tickets Cyril Leeder is selling.
Ottawa people spending money?

MacEwen - 1:40 of PK time in his career
Cousins - 10:53 of PK time in his career.

These guys are not penalty killing options.

Zetterlund has had more than enough opportunity to establish himself here lately. If he ends up back with Gaudette and Highmore he has nobody to blame but himself.
Let's be honest here. Ottawa are currently having to play a really tight checking playoff style of hockey and their offensive output has suffered because of it. I don't blame Zetterlund for this. However, the Senators need to work more on attacking and making better decisions with the puck, that lead to more offensive output. They are creating too many turnovers and playing too uptight of late. I think it is a mental issue.

Quite shameful for a big game tbh. Someone bump the will we sellout the playoff games thread.

I'll be at both games this weekend.
They also had a BOGO at some point where you could buy tickets to a March game and got April tickets free.

Plus they seemed to give a bunch away for the Sabres game. I think attendance is still somewhat artificially inflated but realistically Sens will struggle to fill seats until they increase their STH base.

We got outshot 26-5
They had 2 shots in the 3rd?

Outchanced 25-5 in slot chances and 11-1 in rush chances.

Tight as Annie Knight.
Yeah, Ullmark bailed us out tonight.

I guess our one rush chance was Pinto’s goal. And our PP was pretty bad, yet we got a PP goal. And our PK was frightening, yet Ullmark shut the door.

Our PK issues will be highlighted in the playoffs. Teams are going to take crazy advantage of it.

Man, that was an ugly win.

I know a lot of Sens fans in the post-game radio show were talking about team defence, but what I saw was Ullmark stopping a lot of high danger chances.

And again, we are less likely to score on a team with no goalie than we are at 5 on 5.

But, they went up 2-0 and while I think Ullmark would have liked to have had that rebound back on the 2-1 goal, potting the first two goals in the game is nice as opposed to chasing all the time.

He made a lot of absurd saves in close and the amount of loose pucks in the crease and the slot was mortifying because Ottawa's skaters were collapsing and scrambling constantly.

Still not good enough for any kind of playoff noise. Tkachuk being out changes quite a bit.

Stutzle needs to go to a smash room or something and hit lamps with a baseball bat. He's wound up so tight.

They don't have to be pretty at this time of year and maybe it will build some confidence at the right time.

Finally scoring a key goal on the PP is a plus.

Losing to Buffalo and Pittsburgh is annoying but ultimately this was the game that mattered. If Ottawa wants to be respected as a playoff team, they have to show that not only can they compete with teams like Tampa, but they can beat them. It was a big test and they rose to the occasion.

I wasn't thrilled with how they played. At home, I would've liked to see them take control of the game, but Tampa's too good for that. Hopefully Brady's back for Saturday. He leaves a big hole up front when he's not in the lineup.

I agree with this assessment.
