GDT: Game 74: Sharks @ Ducks 7:00pm NBCSCA

Lane Pederson was more effective than Ostapchuk. Considering I've never seen a worse player, idek where they go from here if Grier thinks he's the 4C

Yes. Only 11% of 4th rounders make it to 100 NHL games, which obviously includes guys like Ostapchuk who are gifted a huge chunk of those games by favorable injury/depth situations.
The funny thing is that established bottom six players are readily available through Free Agency or the trade market at worst.

So, it's a philosophical approach, do you use a mid-round draft pick to find a hidden gem or in a trade for an established NHLer, or do you hope to get a prospect that tops out at a 4th liner.

Name the last time a "hidden gem" or "established NHLer" who is better than a 4th liner was acquired for a 4th round pick.

This must be that sarcasm you were talking about.
A little but it was disgusting to sit and watch the "future" watch their #1 organizational defenseman (yes he is better than dicky) get his shoulder separated and do nothing. You guys can pay money for tickets to watch that shit but I won't

They’re 18 and 20, and while I won’t be surprised to see Celebrini fight at some point in the future, I would be surprised to see Smith fight at any point in his career.

I will also be surprised to see Smith win even a participation trophy in the NHL as well.

Ostapchuk isn't an established 4th liner. That's like saying Ferraro is an establish top pairing Dman.

To clarify my point - you can use that pick to try and draft a hidden gem (Players drafted in the 4th line include Ekholm, Savard, Nyquist, J.G. Pageau, Copp, Anderson, Toews, etc.) OR you can use it in a trade for an established 4th liner - literally you mentioned Kunin (he is an established 4th liner).

Using it on a player that you hope can develop into a 4th liner is a waste of an asset.
