Post-Game Talk: GAME 74 - Eight Losses in a row - Detroit 2 BRUINS 1

How is Sweeney the right guy? He has blown key multiple drafts in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The 2015 and 2017 drafts are particularly egregious, but between those 3 drafts
he had SIX 1st Round picks and he has exactly McAvoy left from that. Five of the six were no lower than 19th.

He took Vaak in 2017 with Robert Thomas taken immediately after. His FA signings
have in totality been better than his 1st round drafting, but that's a very low bar.

He better hit on the pick this year AND Letourneau better start developing from the start next year. If not, he needs to go.
I know for a fact - the draft was run by Gretzky in 2015

People believe what they want in everything which is why I never argue with them about politics or 99 % Bruins

I won’t even respond to anything ever about this again

Sweeney F’d up on Vaakanainen he knows it - his scouts in the moment got him to veer off course - the plan of Thomas if Brannstrom went before Boston picked

The Euros wanted a Euro and got it - altered everything

2015 no

People here will believe it but 0.0 happened

Overall his drafting is very good

fine with Sweeney talk

Not directed at KMT you are one of my favorites

Not a flame because he hasn't been too impressive, but for my part I am not judging him or any of the other new guys in Middlestadt, Jokiharju, and Khustidinov based on this final stretch of the season. The team is so abysmal with holes everywhere in the lineup, little apparent leadership, massive losing streak, no chemistry, mediocre goaltending, etc etc. It's hard to get a read on what they can and cannot do right now.

So I guess there is really no value in seeing what the young guys can do.

Honestly, the only newcomer that has shown anything to me is Jokiharju.

Only reason I want Sweeney gone is to watch the inevitable next guy F up and watch the reactions

Boston with an African American GM I’m skeptical.

Watched the game to get out of watching some overly dramatic Netflix series (Adolescence) with the wife ..... so it was a win in my books...wish we would have picked DeBrincat all those years ago when we had a chance...sure turned out to be one hell of a little player
Adolescence is a worthy watch. Would Love Fenway's take on the approach to the filming sequences.

It’s a wonder there are still so many posters here with the horrid last decade the Bruins have put us through.
Oh look, Big Hat No Cattle trying to sell how Bruins fans should be so thankful to Sweeney for delivering its fan base to the brink of disaster. Literally 75%
of the board (including you) could have prevented this with what should have been borderline lay up draft picks from just 6 First Round pics, which more likely would have resulted in at least one Cup, if not more and a still solid playoff team today.

There is a value in getting them NHL experience. For the others, it is what it is. I feel pretty sure you aren't going to see the best of Casey Middlestadt on a line with Khusti and our cousin Vinni, for example.

I have asked and will be patient while griping some.

To wit: Sweeney's performance has been terrible. His drafting alone should have had him fired a few years ago. I have zero faith in NEELY or Sweeny.

For example, acquiring at least two, maybe three, ex-Sabres for our "rebuild" has turned out as badly as one would think. Casey M. is a floater almost without peer; Joker is slow and weak; and Zad provides toughness of a sort, but also lots of bad hockey.
I know you will. You have been consistance on your opinion and I respect that.

On Sweeney, I disagree.

That was a better effort than the last few at least. Competed well enough, just don't have the horses on offense at the moment. Pasta and Geekie keep battling. Swayman let in a softie but was otherwise solid so I'll count that as an acceptable performance from him at this point. I expected more response from Zadorov than we got following Detroit's antics in the 1st. The shove he gave Berggren was more counter-productive than anything. Not much else to talk about.

Let's see if they can lift a bit at home. They'll need to not to get completely blown out by the Caps.

You really thought there should have been push back because Detroit's 5 foot 8 inch goal scorer beat up 6 foot 3 inch defenseman Andrew Peeke? Or because Lauko is stupid enough to drop the glove with a veteran fighter like Austin Watson just to get completely hammered?

No such thing.

Look at the first round of the 2017 draft.

With the 2nd pick in the draft, Philly takes center Nolan Patrick. The next 3 picks are Miro Heiskanen, Cale Makar and Elias Pettersson.

With the 7th pick in the draft, Rangers take center Lias Andersson. Carolina takes Marin Necas 12th. Vegas took Nick Suzuki 13th.

With the 14th pick in the draft, Tampa takes defenseman Callum Foote. A bigger bust than Vaakanainen.

All of them could also have taken Thomas.

And the Bruins drafted Swayman in the 4th round, the 9th goalie taken. Only 2 of those made it to the NHL, Luukkonen and Skinner.

Watched more of this game than I should.
Bruins did plenty of skating, I'll give them that.
Actual scoring talent is non existent except for Geekie and Pasta.

As for Lysell....do they have larger nets in the AHL or in Sweden?
Like...'5x8'?
They should play him for the rest of the schedule and complete the task of knowing that the prospect pool is limited. We now know with all these draft picks; Sweeney has on his table; with what we have seen with this group of prospects we should be very nervous.

Totally agree.
The season is done.
By the sounds of it he's staying staying till Providence starts the playoffs.

Good point. If Khus and Lysell don't produce it's not a nail in the coffin. But this is an opportunity that they are getting because the team is so bad. If the team was contending Lysell would be in Providence and Khus would be on MIN's 4th line.

SJ is a worse team than BOS but you can still see young guys who have stepped up and shown well and young guys who haven't. If Lysell and Khus don't see this as an opportunity and if they don't seize that opportunity, it's flat out not good. Not a final judgement in any way, but also not a step forward. If you aren't stepping up when you get an opporunity it's a lot easier to get passed over.

Much of which is due to Chiarelli in hindsight and bargain discounts for an entire top NHL line.
That's still gets under my skin, people thinking Sweeney had something to do with the Presidents cup team. David and Patrice saved his arse. Without them signing for peanuts, no way they would have been in the position they were in to go "all in" (which I give him credit for doing)

Doesn't matter anyway, these clowns are going to be the FO for at least the next 5 years. They sold Mr Burns on a re-tool.

What has Sweeney ever done to instill confidence he is one of the few GMs who can turn this around?
Oh I totally think Sweeney can make this team a contender.

All he has to do is inherit a HOF multi-time Selke C who also has offensive ability, a top tier 2C, a borderline HOF winger, a HOF #1D and a Vezina winning goalie.

Give him that and I think he can get passed the first round a couple times!

I went to the Bruins season ticket draft party at Legends in 2017 and thought they take a C and Thomas was the guy as he was a London Knights 3 zone guy

Josh Norris was an American who was definitely in the picture there

18 Vaakanainen (made zero sense but so didn’t rumor they were taking Brannstrom _ (they just took 2015 Zboril, Carlo, Lauzon) and 2016 McAvoy & Lindgren

Thomas & Norris next

Also Kristian Vesalainen went 24 to Winnipeg

Big scoring winger i was super high on who busted

This is really my major draft screw up for Donny

It alters their time Line and hence ours who follow the Bruins
