We will get a solid D at our spot, that's what we need anyway, we don't need anymore forwards or prospect forwards, we have 30 forwards already. We'll be just fine in the draft. Dano and Rychel were middle to lower first rounders and that wasn't even a deep draft.

Huh? 2013 draft is arguably even with 2015's draft.

Maybe how it's played out so far but there wasn't nearly the hype of the depth of that draft as this one, not even close. And if in your opinion, they were even, then you just proved my point, we'll get a solid player in the 8-11 range. I don't think most people on here are thinking defenseman, they want to tank to get a high scoring forward and I just don't think we need that. We need D. Speaking of which, Reilly's season is over, hope the kid doesn't make us suffer for a month before making his decision.

I thought Prout played a solid game, he takes a lot of heat on here, but he's our only true monster in front of the net. We need that kind of presence and I think he will get the rest of his game together next season too. I would much rather see Tyutin gone and have Prout play.

“It measures up to some of the greater drafts we’ve had,†said Tod Button, chief amateur scout of the Calgary Flames. “It’s a real good first round and it goes a little bit deeper than that. You’re going to find some players you might like at 10 that are available at 25.

I mean I see what you're saying by we will get a good player at 7 or 8 or wherever, but saying the 2013 draft wasn't hyped like 2015 is inaccurate. Nathan MacKinnon was compared to Sidney Crosby for a while (Sound familiar?), Seth Jones was compared to Pronger, Drouin to Kane I believe. The 2013 draft was pretty hyped.

:thumbu: tank for Hanifin, no more F,C.. although too late now to tank and I am not sure that Werenski/Provorov much worse :)

This is an unbelievable stat. Thanks for the research. Really hard to comprehend the disparity but 3 years is a trend it seems

Momentum works both ways. The Jackets are a team built to win on aggressive physical play. When it breeds success it feeds on itself. When they start to lose I think it is hard for the team to put forth the effort to play the way they are supposed to. This year that downward momentum was started and continuously exacerbated by the injury wave. Hopefully next year the injuries abate and the upward trend lasts all season.

Agreed. What about the previous 2 years though lol?

I think the momentum thing explains the strong finishes. Not sure I can explain the lousy starts other to say once they started they went downhill quickly. And Bob missed a stretch last year too. Also the lack of depth didn't help. That is being corrected now and will presumably get better over the next few years.

I love the positives Prout brings but his problem is his inability to read the play in his own end. At his age I'm guessing you either have that ability or you never will.

Since the lockout ended:

Oct-Feb: 60-68-12
Mar/Apr: 42-15-6

That is an amazing stat and what I've been saying for awhile.

The team digs itself a hole that most years it can't dig out of. Until this year it seemed to be a nerves problem (IMO) the team just couldn't play until there was no pressure then they would play well. This year obviously injuries hurt.

How much of this statistic has to do with the fact that by March/April the Jackets are typically well out of the playoff hunt so other teams "take the night off?"

This is the first time in three years the Jackets have been out of the playoff race in March.

Just checked and the Jackets were 4 points out of third in the East as of March 1 2014. In 2013 they were dead last on March 1 2013. So I think both are a bit right.

But the implication that the Jackets are only playing well late because there's no pressure of playoffs is not right

Again that's my perception - of the fact that the CBJ usually get off to a bad start and usually play well at the end. it's looking bigger then 3 seasons. Like in other thread it's not always true but recently it's a bigger trend - and my perception was the team would finally "unclench" and started to play once they were so far back that no one cared outside of Columbus and who ever we were playing that night.

Last season was the exception of a lot of things yes bad start, but played exceptionally well enough to get into playoffs.

I see your point, but he is only 25 and some defensemen take longer, especially when they are big like him. He was so good his first year but he brings the body, clears the net and will fight anyone, that's qualities we don't have but need on D. I think Goloubef has turned into a better version of Tyutin and thus making him expendable. I hated Goloubef, probably because of his awful to spell name, but he's started to turn it around.

But the year before last, we missed the playoffs via a tie-breaker. We finished our final game of the season (a win) with an extremely solid chance of making the playoffs, but the game that finished a couple hours after ours went the wrong way.

I just don't share your perception.

Side note: I don't think I'm ever going to like Chicago being loud during the national anthem.

I've always hated that, it's extremely disrespectful. I actually stand out in the concourse when they play here so I don't hear their fans "cheering" over Leo. Raises my blood pressure too much.
