GDT: GAME 73 | Senators @ Penguins | Spice Up Your Life! Edition | Sun Mar 30 2025, 5PM | TSN5, RDS

I mean Panthers with rested Tkachuk, Ekblad, Marchand in their lineup with back to back trips to the finals are a nighmare matchup if I’ve seen one.

Anyways I’m just happy to be in the playoffs. They could get swept and I’d be happy lmao
I won't be happy with a 4 game sweep and out. Must win at least 2 games before going out to make me "somewhat happy".

My preference in order of our playoff opponent if we finish WC1:

1. Tampa Bay - They have superstars up and down the lineup but I think we would have a good chance to make it interesting and beat them possibly. Some of their players are getting a bit longer in the tooth as well which might give us a bit of an advantage being the young, energetic team.

2. Toronto - As much as I would love the chance to boot the Leafs out of the first round, their fans would be insufferable if we go 0-5 against them all-time. They have a deep lineup, too, and it wouldn't be easy to knock them off.

3. Florida - I would give us a 10% chance of beating them or less. With Tkachuk, Ekblad, and Marchand all back we are simply outmatched both at forward and defensive positions. Plus, their playoff experience alone would make it a relatively short series.

We really ran out of gas that game, and it has me questioning why the league allows back to back games with travel and less than 24 hours between games. It makes zero sense, if you absolutely need to have back to back games with cross border travel why wasn't the clb game a matinee and the pens game the late one? There really doesn't seem to be any excuse for less the 24 hours between games.

100% agree. I wonder which teams have the least and most amount of games where there's less than 24 hours between each game

After all the yrs of being out of a playoff race before Xmas this is an exciting yr where we have a real opportunity to make the playoffs & a pretty good team to make some noise in the playoffs. Finally, the Sens are doing well & lots of positives around this team.

I think it's alright if there's no travel, but finish a game at 9:45, shower and head to the airport, fly min 3h 40 mins, your checking into the hotel at what, 1:30, 2:00 am? Then expected on the ice for 5?

I'm actually kind of surprised the CBA allows for it.

Good points made.

I would rather play Toronto over Tampa Bay. Toronto, as we all know, tend to crack under the pressure of the playoffs.

Ullmark and Forsberg as a tandem are better than Stolarz and Woll IMO. Vasilevskiy and Bobrovsky are proven playoff champions and Vasilevskiy in particular scares the crap out of me.

Marner is a superstar no doubt, but he is a perimeter player. The playoffs is a tougher more physical game and Marner has a tendency to get pushed around and lose his edge. Matthews is having an off year and he doesn't have a history of shifting to a higher gear in the playoffs. Nylander is great and a great playoff performer.

The Sens are a gritty team who plays great defense and is considered as a rat-like team to the rest of the league. We have no playoff history to judge how our players will up their game come playoff time. However we do have Tkachuk who showed in the Four Nations he can turn his already physical game up a notch when it counts, plus he scored some big goals.

I think Sanderson and Chabot are better than any of the defencemen on the Leafs.

Yeah ideal Scenario for us and the league is we face the leaf and wipe them in 4.Leafs probably want us cause for them it 4 home games hh. Tampa and Florida are probably the two contenders in east for the cup , Washington might not have the horse and experience to make it. I think nobody wants to meet champions in the first round like Tampa and panthers both have pretty stacked team up and down the line up with huge playoff experience.

My Ideal scenario is battle of Ontario : Sens vs :Leafs were we spank them 4-0 or 4-1
Battle of Florida : Tampa vs Florida these guys have almost same rivalry as us and leafs .
Those matchups will get a lot of views for 1st around the league not just fans of respective teams

Other series who I think would be great to watch in the east:
Columbus/Rangers vs Washington
NJ vs Carolina

For the West who cares we already know who will be in the 2nd round hhh:
Vegas and Jets are pretty much locked for 2nd round
the other series is were is tough to predict:
Kings Vs Oilers and Dallas vs Colorado( this one probably one of the best to watch)

I really think vs Leafs we have best chances to pass 1st round, we match up well against them and they have reputation of being soft and chokers. It can be dirty if they pay Reaves to injure our start players Aka Stutzle and Sanderson

I don’t think Ullmark is better than Stolarz.

Sanderson is better than any of their d-men, but the Leafs have a deeper d-corps since adding Carlo.

I’d take the Sens D core personally (assuming Hamonic is scratched), but I wouldn’t blame you for preferring the leafs either.

I think Stolarz has definitely been better, this year at least.

Is it fair to say that Morgan Reilly is the Leafs best defenceman?

Reilly has 7 goals and 35 points in 74 games played. Chabot has 6 goals and 35 points in 72 games played. Reilly is -17 on the year and Chabot is +12.

Stolarz is having a great year with a .919 save percentage. But after 9 years in the league Stolarz has never played more than 29 games in a season and spent most years playing backup with single digit games played.

Ullmark has played 39 games this year and, as we have seen, can really up his game when the occasion calls for it. Ullmark has won a Vezina and has played 149 more games than Stolarz in his career.

Stolarz is having a great year and I don't want to downplay that but Toronto media still poses the question as to who they want in the crease when the playoff starts, Woll or Stolarz. The reason being that Woll has played well for the leafs in the playoffs and he has played 10 more games than Stolarz just this season.

The leafs have a more talented squad that is being coached really well. They have more depth than us as well. Reilly is having a meh season, but OEL and McCabe have been really good. Their forwards are good defensively and Berube doesn't have to worry about guys taking shifts off or slipping into old habits on the backcheck like Green does.

Our best chance of getting out of the first round is hoping the Leafs crumble due to perceived mental weakness, but we have to remember, our roster is finally showing resilience and composure after adding a Vezina calibre goalie and multiple years of just dropping the ball. TML has the talent to embarrass our roster with their speed and skill (especially if Hammer is playing in our top 4), and I hope we don't underestimate them. Ovechkin was perceived to be a guy that couldn't handle playoff hockey, until everything clicked. Let's hope that everything doesn't click for AM34, Marner, and Nylander.

No. Mccabe and Tanev individually are twice the dmen Morgan Rielly is.
