Post-Game Talk: GAME 73 - Daffy Duck finally shoots Elmer Fudd - Anaheim 6 BRUINS 2

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Getting McAvoy and HL back will help the team.
Our only hope is to get a top 5 pick at the draft and pick the right player that can step in next year and play.
Minten may turn out to be a decent #3 center?
Take the cap space and invest in skilled fast players....hopefully someone wants to come here.
If you can find a trade partner, get rid of EL and Zadorov.

Perhaps the last GM deserves credit for the core he built for this era. Ironically after inheriting an excellent core himself. Sweeney had benefits most new GMs do not. Expectations should have been high.
Looking at this team now from when Sweeney took over. Ugly !!

Its still a job every GM would covet though. As their a franchise who has repeatedly spent to the cap. I think it will take time, but maybe not with the right signings and a shrewd trade or two, but dam is Sweeney the right guy to ask that from, seeing his previous FA signings and the way they've handicapped this team, and do you want him doing a full rebuild through the draft, as in his tenure here drafting surely hasn't been his strongest point.

Risky to say the least, but I think he'll stay, but one more losing season he's gone. I sure hope he gets right, because I don't want to see another losing season, McKenna or not and I don't want him dealing any of those 2026 picks unless its for an elite player who's under contract and 27 or younger.

Also, dropping the puck back before entering on the PP drives me crazy. Kills momentum.

Teams have been doing this regularly for almost a decade now. I think it was the Lightning that popularized the move. It's designed so the puck goes to one of your faster players to catch the defense either flat footed or force them to hold the blueline, allowing the puck carrier ( who should be one of your faster puck handlers ) to gain zone entry with speed. Problem comes when teams do it too much and the defense is ready for it.

Slightly off topic (but it beats discussing the game), I actually heard Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name played at the Islanders game a couple of nights ago. I'm big into the guitar-driven 80's rock and was very impressed with the Isles' music.

Whitesnake's Still of the Night (slow middle section) and Skid Row's Youth Gone Wild were cued up when the opposition scored. And the Isles' goal song is Joe Satriani's awesome Crowd Chant.
Something wrong with late 60s, early 70s and early 90s guitar-driven rock?

Cassidy was here for 6 seasons. That's a long time for an NHL coach with one team. Julien was here for 10 seasons, an eternity for NHL coaches. I thought Monty was sacked too soon, but I guess there were a lot of factors I wasn't clear on.

Some posters here want Mike Sullivan to return. He's coached a team with Sidney Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Karlsson and more. Haven't made the playoffs for the last 3 seasons.
Yeah, coaches have a shelf life. Is there a Jack Adams coach who hasn’t been fired?

Yeah, I was told by a self appointed hockey guru that "other teams today do it that way." Also, did you know that "slapshots are passe and that a wrist shot is more efficient and faster."
The lengths some here go to to justify this mess (beyond tanking on purpose) is just plain sad.
Wrist shots are supposedly more accurate, but someone forgot to tell Pavel Zacha.

Edit - Apparently Cooper has never won a Jack Adams. Talk about mind blowing that a 2x cup winning coach doesn't have a Jack Adams
Interesting. So there’s one? And he’s in year 6 or so? Maybe he’ll be like Claude and have a long successful run.

Agreed. My guess is that the Bruins viewed Monty as a longer term deal but a few things conspired against that. Playoff fail, no movement on a new contract, and then the oddities of this season probably told everyone that this wasn't going to work.

Sacco? What has he done that, either this season or setting us up for the future, suggests he's the guy to go forward with?
he wouldn't sign an extension because he wanted to go to STL. He then ran a terrible camp and slept behind the bench for the first part of the season.

Absolutely not - it's all great!

Freebird for Team USA's goal song was superb, I dig Seattle playing the Nirvana lick when a penalty expires, etc.

When the Aeros were Minnesota's AHL team, we used to get REM's Everybody Hurts after a loss. That was cool, too, other than the loss. ;)

Not to mention in the Bruins case, they usually miss the player with the pass or the player accepting the pass is too slow and lacks talent and IQ to enter the zone with possession!

Zadorov could possibly be moved with his 5 mil cap hit. He is +14 on a very challenged team and can provide some muscle.

EL, I doubt we will get any takers with 38 points and a 7.750 cap hit for like 7 more years.

Yeah I used to love Free Bird (one of the great guitar breaks in rock and roll history). *Until* it became the Team USA goal song 😉.

During the game, there are moments where they try to get everyone in the stands to yell quack, quack, quack! which my wife and I thought was ridiculous and hilarious.

Then, on our way to the car we were walking through an underpass and a few folks yelled, Ducks! for the echo and so my wife and I started saying "Quack, quack, quack!" sarcastically but the whole parade of folks started quacking, lol.
