Post-Game Talk: GAME 73 - Daffy Duck finally shoots Elmer Fudd - Anaheim 6 BRUINS 2

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

Bruins Yogi Bear driving tank FINAL (1).webp

At this pace Sacco may not even make it to the end of the season. This team is dreadful to watch and as several posters have pointed out, this has got to affect the locker room.
I don't think the players are purposely trying to tank, we are just that bad. The D is dreadful and the forwards aren't exactly helping the cause. The loses weren't exactly close which will affect the goalies. Essentially the team has fallen apart inside and outside and will have to be completely rebuilt at this point. The asset management has amounted to a massive net negative over the years (not counting the last trade deadline). This is completely on the front office and the only way to affect a change is to clear house there. Period.

This is the season we are finally paying the piper. We are now the Sharks at the beginning of their rebuild. It doesn't help that our prospect pool is basically one of the worst in the league. There are a rough few years ahead but hopefully we can take a page from the SJ play book. I really like how they kept acquiring draft and prospect assets. They are going to be a good team again in a couple of years. Donnie has to stop throwing premium money at middling FA's. He has continuously thrown mud against the wall, hoping one would stick and we are out of mud now. We are just starting that rebuild journey and to be honest, it sucks after being competitive all these years.

@Aussie Bruin, Can you imagine being the person that has to promote this game on ABC?

Sean McDonough will be vicious towards both teams

The perils of long-term scheduling. Ask folks back in September whether you think both these teams will be playoff contenders and the answer would have been in the affirmative, especially for the Bruins. Instead one is just clinging on to hope, and the other fell right off the cliff some time ago.

But perhaps all is not lost for ABC. It's still Original Six. Don't expect much from the Bruins, but the Red Wings still have something to play for and they are a decent watch on a good day - they have pace and some solid offense.

Boston can ride this one out, but they are going to have to lift when they get back to the Garden or things may get ugly. I said before this road trip began that they can go out west and lose in peace and quiet, and have they ever. But the total lack of competitiveness they've mostly shown won't cut it at home. I don't think most people are expecting wins at this point, but some sort of heart, pride and effort needs to be displayed. It's probably a blessing that there are only 4 home games left.

Raise your hand if you wanted the team to sell at the deadline, get the best first pick possible at the draft and still hate seeing them lose.
@Over the volcano

:handclap: I never want to see the team lose, but I understand that losing now makes for a better future.

In less than 24 months, we have seen the Bruins go from being an elite team to an expansion team, and that is tough to swallow, and there is no quick fix.

Everyone shitting on Sacco. He’s the Celtics version of ML Carr. Carr did what he was supposed to.
He could absolutely tell them to do something different on the pp, especially on the entry — but he doesn’t. Perhaps it is he who is the source of No. 2 on himself

I reflect back to the 1960's Boston Bruins ( 7 consecutive years out of the playoffs) and I never had the feeling that I should not be listening or watching them play. They were in Chicago Cub Fans' terminology: "loveable losers".
The product on the ice for the end of the season is bordering on unwatchable.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Perhaps everyone was stuck in line at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad down the street at Disneyland.

It’s as good a reason as any for why the good people of Orange County left so many seats empty at Honda Center Wednesday night as their Ducks played one of their best games of the season in besting the Bruins, 6-2, two clubs destined for an early summer.

The Ducks took advantage of a reeling and shorthanded Bruins squad en route to moving to 31-32-8.
Boston (30-34-9) has now lost seven straight.

The Bruins were bitten by the same problems that have haunted them all season: a lack of shots, too little commitment to checking, an anemic power play, and late-period breakdowns.

David Pastrnak, who scored his 35th goal, giving him at least that many in four straight seasons, acknowledged this is the toughest stretch of his Bruins career.

“We just don’t play with the puck enough and a lot of it is our own doing and [I’m] not taking anything away from them. They were better at every aspect of the game today but that’s too many times that happened this year,” Pastrnak said. “So, it’s really hard to find words to try to fix it. It’s game 73. We shouldn’t even be standing here and talking about games like this. This is the kind of game that should happen in the first 10, maximum 15 games of the start of the season. We are at game 73. It’s a tough time.”

The Bruins barely made John Gibson sweat, landing just 9 shots on the Anaheim goalie through 40 minutes before generating 16 in the third. They gave up a shorthanded goal on their first power play, and after trimming the Ducks lead to 2-1, gave up a pair of goals in the final 2:03 of the second period.

Former Boston College star Cutter Gauthier then made it 4-1 when his innocent looking flip from the circle fooled Korpisalo and trickled in with 1:15 left.

It was the 30th time this season the Bruins have allowed a goal in the final two minutes of a period.

“I mean those happen. I mean, a weird bounce goes in,” said Korpisalo, who finished with 31 saves. “Even the second goal bounced [off a skate] and went in and obviously the fourth one, I don’t know if there’s a hole in my pad or what happened, but those things happen sometimes and can’t let it affect you and of course you don’t want those to happen. But yeah, today was one of those days.”

The Bruins close this road trip Saturday in Detroit and Pastrnak wants to see more of a commitment from his team.

“Well, we have nine games left and we have to leave it all out there and it doesn’t seem like that’s been the case the last couple games, so you still need to build something in this group and be connected,” he said. “And it’s obviously early after the game, so we don’t want a lot of emotional talk, but we have to be better than that and start building something here because right now we have nothing.”
