GDT: Game #73: Battle of Alberta - Flames @ Oilers - 8 PM

Going into the 4 nations tournament the Oilers were 1st in the division and tied as the 3rd best team in the league.

A month and a half later and we're 3rd in our division with essentially zero chance at catching Vegas and 11th in the league. This is a massive game that can't be undersold. A loss tonight and there is a very real chance this team could miss the playoffs based on the way they've been playing. The Flames would just be 6 points back with a game in hand.

The team came out of the break and continued with the terrible defensive habits that creeped in before the break as the mid season blues dragged on. This team needs a solid effort from everyone to get back to where they were before the break. It’s the way the team is built if their going to continue to have lazy coverage and attention to detail they’ll be lucky to hold on to third in the pacific and that’s still with a healthy lead on the flames/canucks.

AI inserted a flame where the Oilers Oil drop is. not sure how I feel about that. Matches my take on this game.

Nice thread @Morpheus. We would be the Arizona board without you. ;)

Injury reports: Stuart Skinner out (Head) I got a laugh

Frederic: Vital signs. not sure what to feel about that.
We can only hope that Stu getting his bell rung will have the same affect as when Nurse got his rung and came back in great form.

Seems like Drai is playing tonight...would be awesome cause I am at the game with my friends from Germany...would be unfortunate not seeing our boy Leon.

Hope for the best tonight, let's go Oilers.
Have fun at the game.

Nice to see Drai back, I just hope he isn't rushing it because they lost the last two games.

The bigger concern, even bigger than McDavid being out, is Ekholm. I'm starting to think that he's not going to be close to 100% the rest of the season, he hasn't been right for months. The defense completely crumbles without Ekholm at full strength and is something to seriously keep in mind when it comes to Bouchard's next contract because it's looking more and more like Ekholm is the majority of the reason for him breaking out.

It’s wild how much edm misses ekholm when he’s out. Bouchard especially goes into stupid mode even more when he’s out. He is the glue on defense.
Weird how when Bouchard struggles Ekholm does too. When Bouchard is playing like the elite d man he is- Ekholm looks better- it’s almost like they equally help each other

It was nice seeing Canada get the win but that break was far too long. Killed all our momentum and it was hard for Connor to get his head back into playing regular games.

Hope one of those tournaments doesn’t happen again for a long time
