GDT: Game 72(?) : Kraken vs Flames - Klapka might be an actual giant?

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

LOL. What the hell man. This game has been freaking weird.

Nice shot by Kartye though.

Nice shot placement. Wolf has waved his glove and caught a couple of shots already that were a just a bit further out, but that hole under his arm seems pretty big.

Another game where we are just sort of skating around and then something inexplicably goes click and they start playing good hockey again.

Suddenly I'm on the edge of my seat, this after almost falling asleep in the first period.

Referring back to my earlier comment, I think Kadri would EASILY be the 1C on the current Kraken roster. That's intended as recognition of Kadri's talent and accomplishments but also an admonishment of the current talent level of current Kraken forwards. Basically, while Kadri would be a top 6 forward on most teams ON THIS KRAKEN TEAM he'd be cream of the crop.

Ditto Huberdeau and Coronato. Once you start getting to Zary and Frost it feels like it starts to level out with the current group of Kraken.

The point is that the Flames are decidedly not an impressive team yet they still might make the playoffs. The Kraken split the season series against the Flames and easily could have won this last game. It's not as if the Flames blew the Kraken out of the water or dominated hugely against this half checked out, mismatched, limping Kraken team. Wolf had to kiss his posts quite a few times and Dunn blew it in OT.

Kadri is 34 and on his last legs. Huberdeau is also declining. The Kraken kids grow into top NHL players or they don't, that's for the future to determine. But if the Kraken permanently become the next Flames, or one of the other dozen BS teams in this league, they have blown it epically.

Agree with some of what you’re saying, but the Flames aren’t exactly just letting themselves age into irrelevancy. Their prospect pool is somewhere in the middle of the league, ranking-wise, and they’ve got some very talented youngsters like Parekh, Honzek, Kerins, etc. knocking at the door similar to Seattle’s situation.

I guess my point is they managed at least somewhat of an “on the fly” retool without fully tanking while the Kraken seem (at least so far) unwilling to try that.

I guess the Flames are simply ahead of the Kraken on the retool curve. I think this season's fiasco wasn't expected by the Kraken management (it probably should have been) and they will probably "overreact" this summer.

To think the Avs at one point had MacKinnon and Kadri as the 1C and 2C. Francis has some work to do lmao.

The only thing the Flames are ahead on is having Dustin Wolf.

They gave us a wealth of chances and still got the win, something they've done many times this year. Maybe more the posts in this game but usually Wolf is the difference.

Liked the effort, the Kraken are still trying. As others have posted we’re not that far off from Calgary, literally played them dead even this year. Flames just a tad more consistent.

Side note maybe it was just the broadcast but the lighting in their arena seemed really bad!
