Post-Game Talk: GAME 71 - The Bruins wave the white flag - San Jose 3 BRUINS 1

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Not that we ever will, but would love to hear independently from the Bruins video guys if they recommended a challenge and who overrode the decision if so. Now there’s a Behind the B that will never get made:sarcasm:

It would be nice to get more than the fluff they typically show. Someone at NESN who has access to the unedited footage should leak it :D

I'd take a chance on rebuilding Swayman's confidence prior to trading him. Pennies on the dollar, unless another team blows you way with a "we can fix him" attitude of a deal.
I absolutely no fan of Swayman's contract negotiations, this past off season", but as a point of reference, look at Bobrovsky's career as a source of how volatile a goalie mindset/keeping technique, etc" can be and with 40% of his career being sub average for an NHL goalie, somehow, 2 cup, multi top 3 Vezina, he's a HOF in waiting. (much to my chagrin).
I think this season of Swayman’s is the risk of what you sign up for when you sign a goalie to big money and it takes away from the rest of the team. Goalie is a very fragile, and cerebral position. They can steal games and see the puck well for awhile, but at the end of the day if they’re getting shelled with high danger chances every game it’s going to look poorly over a large sample.

He had a really bad start to the season, but I actually think Swayman has been playing better than the numbers suggest. Multiple games since the 4 Nations break he did every thing in his power to keep the team in it for 2 or so periods until the wheels came off for 4 or 5 goals for the other team.

Rask had the benefit of a high output, defensive minded system with Chara and the best defensive forward to play the game IMO. It allowed Rasks numbers to be very stable over a big sample, but if you ask anyone who watched the Bruins in the 2010s there were ALOT of untimely goals he let in during the regular season.

It’s just a crap shoot for the position and it’s very year to year. Swayman is a very good goalie and I’m pretty confident he can bounce back next year with a full offseason to prepare and 2 top pairing defensemen added to the Defense.

Wotherspoons brutal. Not sure what was going through his head during the 1st SJ goal. Pretty clear 2 v 2 and the guy goes for a walk in the park. 1 legit push by the Bs in the 2nd that caught my interest that led to their fluke goal shortly after. Other than that - you can’t take a night off vs the sharks when you’re on their level now.
That goal was on Koepke. It was a 3-3, he was right next to Eklund who scored the goal but left him and went across the ice to chase the puck leaving him open weak side.

Those video guys are the best, but you are correct....we will never hear from them on last night's non decision.

Abe Rothstein is quoted as saying "I only bet on sure things" Sway should not be considered a sure thing.
The problem is getting someone else to bite on it. If someone overpays, see ya, but I don't see it happening for a good enough return. Maybe EDM or COL would cut off a left nut. They're always knocking at the door.

I thought he played good, was in on forecheck, didn’t seem bad in his own end. Wasn’t afraid to shoot, made some good plays.
My only real issue is he hangs out near the blueline in the offensive zone a fair amount so there’s 3 guys riding the blueline. Needs to get a bit deeper in there to give a few more options
They’ve drilled defense in his head so he’s being overly conscious not to eff up, I saw that too.

They need to promote offense, like shoot the puck and go to the net, something like that!

If we trade Swayman and lose three or four extra games because of it, is the trade off not better that we acquire two players that can help us immediately over an extra three losses having Korps in net?

Think about the question.
How much NET do we lose trading Swayman?

Answer: not much

That's definitely not the winger's man.
So the right play on a 3-3 is to leave your guy and skate boards to boards puck chasing? OK.

One positive from this game. There is no quit in this team for the most part. They've been fighting, blocking shots, skating hard despite being outgunned. And we know that is NOT coming from the coaching staff (bunch of losers). So that means there is some sort of leadership group forming, Pasta, Zaddy, some younger guys? developing, pushing the guys forward. They look rudderless nonetheless without proper coaching.

If you trade 5 guys including your captain the week of the deadline……do you not also come back with an entirely new staff too? Outside of Goalie Bob, it has to be all new voices for next year. They cannot bring this staff back. The PP and defensive strategy alone are reasons to make massive changes. But we know the FO will pull the strings and bring half of them back to ‘support’ the new coach. 👎
Of they hire a "good" coach, he'll want all his own assistants / associates, no?

Lysell feedback?
He needs a good long run not a few games here or there .I saw him do some good stuff but he is a bit timid on the walls which is understandable. He had one nice play where he drew a penalty cutting across oppositions blueline.A player needs lots of reps at this level to find his footing so hopefully they let him finish out the season here.I missed most of 3rd period so commenting on earlier in game.

Yeah I’m not telling you that you’re wrong. You easily could be right. But I just give more weight to what I watched in the playoffs last year than this hell of a season that it’s been.. I just do. When it mattered, he showed up. And everyone loved him for it.

Ask Rangers fans what they think of Igor Shesterkin right now. 52 weeks ago he was the best goalie in the world. Just saying, I think Swayman more than earned another chance next year. He’s a very passionate guy too.. I think he focuses up this summer. They need him to, there isn’t another option.

Also, given your example… they wouldn’t get 2 players to help right now. You could argue the Bruins would have to add assets to give him away.

Keep the parking attendant and fire everyone else in that organization. If Sweeney is here making any draft picks this team is doomed . His evaluation of nhl caliber hockey players is nonexistent. The man has destroyed this team for the foreseeable future.
Yea he hits on a player here there but very little faith in him building it from the ground up, which is basically where we are( cue, we missing Chuck and Hampus fans) .He has to find a way to get a # 1 centre either through trade the draft or pure luck but he has to do that. They cannot keep going without it and expect good results or their fortunes to change. Its another reason why not challenging never bothered me.He needs all the help he can get.Come on ping pong balls.

Should have challenged the offside, didn't, but that's just a distraction. The Bruins played like garbage, and it is testament to how weak the Sharks are and how solid Korpi was that this game was even 1-1 with less than 4 mins to go. The team is totally listless at the moment and fully deserved to lose.

But things are going well, in a sense, looking at the bigger picture. The Ducks and Pens are now within a point of the Bruins, and both are playing better hockey. Can count on them jumping ahead. Would like to say the same of Seattle but the are stumbling along so not sure. The Flyers have completely given up so nothing to hope for there. Good news also that no-one can possibly now argue with a straight face that these coaches have a clue what they're doing. I would keep one for continuity - probably Leach - plus Goalie Bob, and the rest can go. New faces, new vision, more smarts, sense and grit please. And Sweeney must surely be strongly getting the message that he still has a lot of work to do in the offseason to have any chance at all of turning the team straight back into a competitor.

It's difficult and tough to watch at present, no question, but some medicines can be tough to swallow and you simply have to hope that the bitter taste is going to be worth it and produce good results down the line.
Medicine? Yes, and this is Chemo, strong Chemo to save the body Bruin.
