GDT: Game 71: Sharks vs. Maple Leafs 7:30pm NBCSCA

It's frustrating how easily Smith and Celebrini click on 5 v 5 but when on the PP they can't seem to make clean plays.

Special Teams coach (both) have to go. A PP1 of Celebrini-Smith-Toffoli-Eklund-Cagnoni cannot br this ass. And PK is abysmal. 5v5 team has played very well
I would take Eklund of PP! and find a big body to just stand in front of the net forcing one of the 4 PKers to remain stationary and allowing more space around the perimeter. Right now it's just 5 guys all skating around passing and looking for the perfect shot.

Do you want Desharnais on the PP? This is how you get Desharnais on the PP.

Not sure about that, he's had some great looks tonight. He did get worked by I think marner on that forecheck on the pp though
Why are you dignifying that post with a serious response?

Vinny Desharnais directly causes two goals against is generally a crime against hockey, but Hodge would never say anything against him. Cagnoni gets worked by one of the best players in the world and manages to recover, and the world is ending. Everything in balance.

Finally caught up to the game.

“Cagnoni is trash” is a wild statement but Hodge’s gotta Hodge.

ANYWAY, one thing that’s really apparent to me is how much better this team is with a defense that has at least 4 puck movers on the backend. They’re not world beaters (except Muhk, what a revelation he’s been, he’s been awesome) but the fact that they can get the puck out, make a nice pass, help our offense transition is HUGE.

Also, I really love Toffoli and Wennberg as our vets. Great guys, smart, mentors, Grier did good there.

Also the first line is really fun.

FIN.

I’m going to go further and say Cagnoni is very visible in a very positive way. He skates BEAUTIFULLY, maybe not speed-wise, but he’s so smooth, I love watching him skate. He’s got a great stick, smart playmaker, and actually hasn’t really been bodied very much for a small guy. He’s still a rookie and needs work but this kid wasn’t even supposed to be in the AHL this year and he’s looking pretty good in the NHL. This kid deserves all the credit in the world.

I don't think he looks great personally. But he's 20 years old playing against one of the best teams in the league and saddled with VINNY DESHARNAIS. Treading water is impressive in that situation, as far as I'm concerned.
