The women’s US and Canadian Olympic teams have lost numerous times to junior and high school teams. Canada’s women’s team dropped 3 straight against a team from the Alberta Hockey League (so not even CHL level) a year or two ago, including an 8-0 loss in which the women only had 10 shots. I’ve played pickup with active D1 girls while in my 30s and completely out skated them and I was barely a D3 men’s level player when I was good. Hockey doesn’t translate well across the genders - the speed of the game is just multiple tiers higher in the men’s game, even at the ECHL level. It’s like high school track athletes running faster times than women’s Olympic runners. It just can’t be overcome in a game like hockey. Anytime a 15 year old boy picks up the puck it looks like McDavid driving wide around a flat footed Harpur.
