We're countering their depth by going all smoke and mirrors with the lines

Beautiful. While the individual lines aren't as great as something like Lucic/Kopitar/Carter, the combos put someone who is a threat to score on every line. This means other teams can't hide their depth guys. If they have a weak link it gets exposed. Sucks for Carter being stuck with Brown/Clifford. .

Kings system doesn't allow cheating for offense. To make up for that they need to find other ways of increasing the offense, like being a threat to score the whole game instead of giving teams whatever time the 3rd/4th line play to shelter their 3rd pairings and depth lines.

Other team is left with a choice. Leave the weaker links out there to be exposed or shorten the bench and the Kings continue rolling 4 lines at high intensity and wear you down.

Just because you play defense doesn't mean you shouldn't try to break teams with offensive pressure as well.

The Carter with Brown/Clifford is kind of like what Sutter has done to Kopi in the past. Put him with guys that don't finish well just to make him shoot more.
But Brown is on a hot streak. So maybe he hopes some of that will rub off on Carter.

this reeks of a dumpster fire game where we outshoot them 40-25 only to lose 3-2 (and of course only getting weird goals from like Pearson and Schenn)

That would just support season trends. We're a historically good puck possession team (have acutally dipped) at 55.8%, they're a 47.5% team, 5th worst. Our PDO is middle of the pack, theirs is league leading.

Brassard is pretty close to a 1C, but they basically have 3 2C's right now down the middle, and Moore centering the 4th line. Can't think of many other teams with that luxury. I hope Carter can get going, seems like he's been pretty stagnant.

Gotta have a true 1C to win in this league. No one can touch Kopitar on that team.

I think Sutter is putting guys together now so during the playoffs they can adjust is a need arises.
Kings don't need any more wins to make the post season. Might as well try stuff. It is like preseason all over. Sure winning is nice but need to try stuff and see how it goes

It is clear that Sutter already knows we will make the playoffs and is experimenting with different lines to see how deep he can make all four lines. His comments today during the interview confirm that he is trying to build a playoff team. I am sure for a home game, putting Carter, Kopitar and Lucic together gives you the best chance to win, since you get the line change, but Sutter is looking at the big picture.
