GDT: Game #70 - Kraken @ Oilers - 8PM - All Decks On Hand

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Hard to say who'd actually win between that line vs the one we icing today lol
Anything could happen but in a single game, but tonight's lineup is light years better on defense and probably at goal as well.

Forwards may be a little closer than you'd like, but once you get past the top two on that team I'd still pick this group every day of the week and even in terms of top two I'm not sure I'd put Hall and Ebs above RNH and Hyman

oi, oi, that roster looks like 2010 bad.

Podkolzin-RNH-Arvidsson is interesting and I'm not being sarcastic. Doubt that line does much but players who theoretically should work together.
They played well together against Utah earlier in the week. Last game they were able to create a couple of good chances but they both were off the stick of Podkolzin who has zero finishing ability.

I thought that line looked reasonable against Winnipeg. Basically subbing Nuge for Drai for how much time that line was together earlier in the season.

Edit: oops now that I see the post above it was Utah not Winni.

Limited sample size, but looks pretty good to me with a little setback vs. Winnipeg, but that game also featured them getting much tougher matchups than they had in the prior games especially in the third.

Congratulations, I remember when your wife gave birth. Time flies, was just lurking. Now I have a daughter of my own due in May...miss seeing you do the splits as well.
Oh man that's exciting !!! I'm pumped for you!! The time goes by so flippin fast buddy!!!

I'll have to post an updated split pic shortly. Been a while haha

With no McDrai and Frederic and Kane not ready for a while, that forward group hurts the eyes. Perry and Hyman on Henrique's wings are a weird fit. Skinner would fit much better there but Knoblauch hates him so....there's that.
Just one of the most bizarre player deployments I've ever seen and there's been a lot of questionable Oiler coaching decisions over the decades. All Skinner has done is play well in any role, knocks it out of the park on the McDavid line or any time he's on a skill line, then he gets Janmark and Brown as a "reward". Utterly baffling.

Knobs usage of J Skinner makes my blood boil. It has to be just ego at this point or something. We are down our 2 best players and he demotes the dude who just scored 2.

Some of Knob’s decisions really make me feel perplexed. The treatment of Skinner has to be related to an off ice issue (Maybe Skinner made fun of Knob’s last name or something)

I don't follow the exact placement of players in the flow of a game so much, but I'd have to guess that if Skinner isn't getting the opportunities he appears to deserve, it's likely that he isn't committing to his role in the team's systems. A player scoring goals doesn't mean he's doing all the other little things, and it undermines the whole team to allow exceptions. Also, in playoffs, anyone not committing fully will be your downfall. In the regular season you can get away with it.

I don't know if that's the reason, but it at least makes sense. Knoblauch is more knowledgeable about hockey decisions like this than anyone here.

It's also possible that against this opponent maybe spreading out talent is the right call. What would matter is how these lines are used.
