GDT: Game 70: Anaheim Ducks vs Carolina Hurricanes, 5pm PT

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

tank thread? that's great how some of you still believe this franchise will ever win a draft lottery
O i believe it might happen. It just will never be in a year with a top tier #1. NHL looks at results sees Bedard, Crosby… to the Ducks…. Ya F’ that. Ahh Yakupov is the top talent this year. Seems like a long term Duck if I ever heard one.

I'm gonna be the one to post the stat card, mostly because I want to give a PSA before anyone else posts it: it is probably not correct, Natural Stat Trick is currently glitched out and not providing xG data, and every single player having 0 for xGF and xGA borks the stat cards model pretty bad. (Among other things, I don't think every player on both teams showing positive 'defense above average' is how it's supposed to work.)
IIRC this has happened a couple times before and it usually gets fixed on the stat card site once NST gets itself figured out, so if anyone wants an accurate one it'll probably be there eventually. But since people post them from Twitter half the time... just a heads up.

(I know there's a lot of debate about how valuable these things are anyway, but they're really not valuable with inaccurate input data.)

Crediting where it's due, since seeing your chart here is what made me realize the xG data was missing and that's why the cards looked weird.

Lundestrom not having the lowest defensive number here seems suspect.

Would you include celebrini to that list too?
Easy in retrospect to say he would be too good for the ducks but I dont think SJ gets better treatment from the nhl compared with the ducks. Smaller/atyptical hockey market teams can have some sympathy for each other in this kinda thing.

The Blackhawk organization and key execs can go screw itself though.

When it comes to the draft I remain pissed at the NHL for allowing the Blackhawks to be involved in the draft for several years after the Kyle Beach disaster. There is rule breaking and then there is sexual assault by coaching staff with knowledge of the head coach, GM and management who bury it. Then they allow the perp to leave with a job recommendation where he then proceeds to assault college athletes. It is BS. Then somehow the NHL allows the GM to take another position in the league a couple years later(Bowman in Edm). Any team who hires Bowman or Queneville after this should lose. I mean McDavid deserves a cup at some point but I hate the Oilers for propagating this old boys club BS. I really hope the Ducks never touch any of this because it would make me question 30years of fandom.

I realize Murray for Ducks had his rage/alcoholism issues but the blackhawks got away with like a 1-2million fine or whatever it was for legitimate criminal activity.

At some point we’re going to have to do 2 things to be taken seriously by the rest of the league

1. Bring in a coach who has a track record of getting results at the highest level of competition and has coached offensively gifted players successfully

2. Bring in quality talent in their prime from outside the organization. This means acquiring players that aren’t at the end of their careers (Killorn, Gudas) and who are better than Strome, Vatrano level. Whether by trade or FA, this has to happen at some point soon. You can’t build an entire 23 man roster through the draft and through washed up FA signings

So far we’ve done neither in the PV era and it’s becoming worrisome.

This will be an interesting offseason to follow

There haven’t been a lot of bright spots this year aside from LaCombe, Gauthier, and Dostal

That 4th line is the shits.

Reminds me of when the ducks had Dominik Simon and Aston Reese out there. Just completely nothingness. Hopefully the Ducks sign some talent to push down Killorn and Strome and get rid of some of the blah.

Ducks PP…

These are my 2 non-negotiables I've been talking about for the offseason. Get a top 6 winner who can put the puck in the back of the net and the other forwards will slot in much more appropriately.

Your point about construction of a 23 man roster is so on point. That's why i've been harping on a big time trade this offseason. We already have a ton of back end talent (commence the 2010's defensive core comparisons) and we should offload 1 of them AND our lottery pick for a bonafide player.

We have to get aggressive - this team is not rebuilding again next year.

Harkins had some great moments in the game yesterday. He's one of the only players that consistently skates like hell.

easily a bottom 5 game on the year for me, especially given Carolina played Saturday and we were rested. The Ducks have been mired by long lapses during games for a while. I don’t expect them to be on it for 60 minutes - no team is - but they are way worse than a lot of teams.

I thought Mctavish and Killorn were good tho. Both were in the game every shift I felt at least.

I know I seem to bang this drum all the time, but they still have no idea how to work the puck into the middle of the ice when they actually establish offensive zone possession. The entire game plan for two years has been some variation of win a puck battle down low, bank it off the boards to the point, and either get it to the net or send a lateral pass to the other point and then they get it to the net and hunt rebounds that the team is never in position to get.

I also spend way too much time screaming at the TV for them to gap up instead of constantly retreating. It's annoying.

Easier said than done. The forwards Verbeek chased last summer were also past their primes (Stamkos, Marchessault).
