What exactly does Rick Tocchet do for this team. Because he sure as hell cant run a decent pp.Geeez.

Did Gonchar turn down a Russian coaching job because he's replacing Tocchet next season?

Trying to be optimistic:)

I thought the Pens owned the entire period except on their powerplay  That's a weird thing to say. 2 PKs were great. 1 PP was the worst. Great 5 on 5 play.

It's not a weird thing to say for the Pens.

I'd really love to get a real view of how the PP is handled. Do they not coach it? Bad coaching? Players rightly or wrongly ignoring the coaching? Players can't execute the plan? Too cavalier about the bad runs it goes on? Too political? Too feel good?

Sid needs to want to win the rocket. I think Streit should have stayed in Pittsburgh. Dude is going behind the back to no one, just doesn't look sharp.

Even aside from the entries(which are atrocious), it was a pretty rough PP for all five guys on that top unit. Ugly stuff. I mean I'm not expecting game 7 urgency but a general sense that they'd like to get a puck on net would be nice. Looked like 5 guys standing around waiting for someone else to make something happen.

The one where Schultz goes to Geno, and Geno chips it in as he's getting hit . . . and NONE of the other three guys are coming with speed to chase the puck. That one is a poster child for the issues . . . BY DESIGN, Schultz had one option, Geno had no option but to chip, and nobody was chasing.

Last 5 games (not in order): 9, 9, 4, 4, 4.

While I agree you could see more, it's not like he isn't shooting.

Okay, fair enough.

I notice you didn't disagree that Geno's only chance to win the Art Ross is to shoot Kunitz.

Too bad ROOT wasn't doing the game tonight. We could hear Steigy and Bob and Jay all bumbling over each other to throw out excuses...

"End of a long road trip..."

"Philly is desperate and bringing their A game..."

"Hard for the Pens to get up for games like this when they already have a playoff spot solidified..."

Problem is that being tired isn't a problem out there. Nobody can handle the puck, they can't gain the zone and when they do everything is kept to the outside, they keep turning it over in their own and and the NZ, defensive coverage is garbage and nobody knows their assignments...

The PKs were the only thing that looked good in that period...

These are my 'going into the playoffs' red flags.

And add the L2 LW debacle . . . that one is going to be just as impactful in a negative way.

Guentzel-Crosby-Sheary is unreal.

So much fun watching those 3 together. They read and react almost instantaneously, they're all fast, they're all skilled, they all manage the puck well, and if they do lose the puck, they backcheck like demons and battle to win it back.

I just don't give a **** about personal awards. You know my thoughts on 71 and 87. I want them to win everything just because they are great guys. But I honestly do not care. I want Lord Stanley. It's greedy, I know, but I want these guys to have no doubt and be in the history books for all-time.

2 is amazing. Don't get me wrong. I am going for greed. I want 3-4.

It's okay to want individual awards and team awards. We're not the players, man.

Further, if you want them in the history books for all-time, individual awards help achieve that end. Nobody (worth a damn) thinks Kane and Toews are better than Crosby and Malkin because they have 3 Cups. People think Crosby and Malkin better because they're better individual talents with more individual hardware.

As long as Sid & Geno go well over a PPG in the playoffs all the way to the finals, yeah the personal awards are meh. It's just more crap for idiots on the main board to argue that so and so is the greatest evar! Over Sid, Geno, and Ovy no less.

Cole, here's what worries me about Kunitz, beyond the fact that he sucks:

1. He will suck the life out of Geno. I don't care how much stronger mentally Geno is. Kunitz has spent the last two years sucking the life out of Sid and Geno, and you have to worry if Geno will find himself in a rut, like Sid was in recently, when the playoffs roll around.

2. Hagelin is gone until the playoffs begin. And, that's at earliest. You could open the playoffs with Kunitz on Geno's LW. Sully won't put Cullen up there. He obviously doesn't think anyone else playing tonight could be better there than Kunitz. So, unless you think he'll try Rust at L2 LW when he returns, the Pens will open the playoffs with Kunitz-Malkin-Kessel or, I think, Kunitz-Malkin-Hornqvist.

Ultimately, at best, playing Geno every ES shift with Kunitz wastes Geno (no ES points in 7 periods, maybe one or two real chances . . . that's awful).

Leaving aside my occasional hyperbole (;)), what part of that shouldn't be very worrisome.
