GDT: Game 69: nice Red Wings at knights 8:00 pm et 3/22/25

Yeah and it's not just that he's average at 2/3, he's among league-worst at 1/3 in FA/pro scouting and then bottom 25% in trades apart from Debrincat who forced himself here.

I barely watched Tarasenko before he became a Red Wing but he seems to have zero offensive IQ... I suspect he has some bad off ice habits or this is his retirement home (contract) because he is clearly slow in everything from foot speed, reading plays, shot recognition, passing..

Right but why does he want to play with this team ? Sure he is scoring forward on a bad team. Without him they are a bottom feeder like they should be. Yzerman has to go lol,

Well they are our only tradeable assets lol. So yeah as much as I wish we could keep them we can’t, because we can’t trade anything else, and we aren’t ever going to build in FA as evidence by Yzermans signings. We need another top 4 D, the only way we are going to get one is through trade. I’m sorry to tell you guys but unless we gut our prospect pool, we aren’t getting good players long term unless we trade something actually valuable.

Would honestly rather this than missing out by only a couple points. Better draft spot and shows a substantial downgrade from last year to this year hopefully causing someone in this organization to wake the f*** up

The way Yzerman is building this team maybe not a bad idea to have similar next season. All plugs will be out and Raymond , Seider and co. Will be in their prime
 
My favourite part of this loss was the comments between the 2nd and 3rd. To paraphrase:

“What do the Wings have to do in the 3rd”?

The response: “They have to play better hockey”.

You don’t have to trade guys like Larkin and cat in order to get a top 4D. There are a few in FA, and you can also trade picks and prospects. We have valuable ones to move.

You may be right. I hope you are not. I fully knew a WC birth was about the absolute best case scenario this season if everything went perfect and this current situation was a reality. It seems next year could be very similar. Next year could be Motte/Smith/Berggren out and 1 kid, 1 free agent, 1 trade replacement. On the back end you would be hard pressed to find anyone take Holl or Gus for free and trading assets to go to the free agency market gives most of PTSD in the Yzerman era... Realistically it is Petry gone and Holl and Gus rotate as 7th D and they bring a rookie up as #6 after 10-20 games into next year who does a Johansson-esque break into the line up. Would not be surprised if they at some point have 3 goalies again at some point.
