GDT: Game 69: nice Red Wings at knights 8:00 pm et 3/22/25

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

10x better than what we have. Not even close. We win 5+ more games this year easy with that D core instead of rolling out Holl/Gus/Petry regularly. Steve Yzerman is incapable of assessing pro talent, full stop.
I thought you were leaving? And how is that a cope? We use to complain about Maatta-Ghost third pairing defense.

Yzerman hasn’t had to show his real hand yet in this rebuild but this summer he needs to make a major pivot of some kind. The signings were always stop gap moves so I don’t get too bent out of shape about it. We still don’t have a core

Listen man, he's a Detroit legend, but he's not been a good manager here and it's getting insane how much leeway he has.
This D-core has us in the playoffs no doubt in my mind

PK philosophy seems to be, get in 4 man box, stand and watch the puck. Stress no one, don't close down passing lanes, don't defend anything and give it a few seconds, and then go pull the puck out of the net.

Maatta alone was more defensively responsible than both Holl and Gus. Ghost had more impact here than both combined, he wasn't great defensively but contributed more to the offense and I don't recall him making as many bad plays defensively.

I get we all wish we had maata still but yzerman tied his own hands by signings Gustafson and holl, which nobody wants. So maata had to go for that reason. It really sucks that those two bums cost us.
