Post-Game Talk: GAME 69 - Buffalo 3 BRUINS 2 F/OT - Westward Ho!

I'm all in for the tank this season to get the best possible draft pick, but no way are they going to be Buffalo next season. It's one down year with a clean out and they will be a better team for it. But for the rest of this year, play hard, try to win, do their best, but keep losing.
agreed, I don`t think they`ll return to being beasts of the East but we will see a marked improvement of a team

What a mess this team is....and really no help on the way. This is going to rough for a looooooong time. Welcome to the Boston Sabres.

There's been a case made that you don't want to bring the young guys into the shit show, with the exception of Merk, because he is the one that the team absolutely needs to make a decision on. I tend to agree with you, but I can see why they don't. Maybe if they are well and truly out of the playoffs you can use the last few games of the season to give guys some looks.
yeah but a few games mean nothing really. They need at least a good 10 games if not more.

These kids aren’t children, they have I am sure at one point or another been on a losing/bad team. They can handle it. Plus the pressure at this point isn’t winning, it’s personal development and establishing yourself in the league. This is the perfect time.

However the wool they are trying to pull over everyone’s eyes is they are close enough to a playoff spot that playing jag AHL vet players that are less risk is all about making the playoffs and playoff revenue. The whole not wanting to bring them up to a bad situation is an excuse.

I don't believe this is true.

Changes will be made before next season.

Marchy may be back, and he brings a lot of good energy

Hampus and Mac will be back.

I honestly believe it will get better.

With you- I'd like to see a line of Merk-Potsy-Lysell for the last doxen games or so. Equally, I'd like to see Callahan back up for a few, or Brunet even. I've had enough of Brown, Mitchell, Lettieri, Beecher et al.

I'd rather see the play now, and as frequently as possible. Toss 'em into the fire for the last few weeks here and let them adjust in the off season as needed.

I'm also fine with riding it out and letting them play the stretch run/playoffs in the AHL.

I took some crap for saying the season is over. It is. These are auditions for next year and to see what you have to inform the draft and UFA market. This isn't complicated and anyone can see it. Accept it. This team is utterly cooked.

And the funny thing is who to say that calling them up means they don’t make the playoffs. Maybe they all play well and they start winning. So while it seems like writing off the season it really is not 100% the case. If so that really helps with the planning of next season

There's a real chance to get better and if they don't there's a real chance they could lose Pasta

Most know the season is over. Many playing now are auditioning for next season. There will be changes before next season.

With Mac and Hampus back and maybe Brad, Pasta will not have the weight of the team on him as much. Pasta wants to win but doesn't have a team that can (even though they try) do much as it has been gutted. It is clear that this season is over.

I don't think Pasta will leave next season, but they need to get him some help. He wants to play in the playoffs and was already pissed off about not being in the 4 Nation games. He is a clear leader that can only help this team once they have more talent. IMO this team will look very different next Fall.

I don't even think making a bunch of call ups would hurt their already small chances of making the playoffs.

What's the worst that could happen? They finish at a .35 points percentage pace rather than a .4? DAMN

They seem to play better under Korp
Yes....yes they do.
He's just a better goaltender.
I posted this before, but this helps us see the difference.

Korpi. Quick! Attentive! Agile!

Swayman. Slow lateral movement. Inattentive. Dopey. Too much lasagna.

This also helps us see how cooler Star Trek is.

Or one of them suffers a serious injury in a meaningless game. That is what I worry about.

Disagree.

In fact, I think it's the opposite. They are playing AHL vets to insure they don't make the playoffs and to fall as low as they can in the standing.

What we need is a first line center, then add pieces from there.

We have some nice pieces that make up our core with Swayze, Pasta, McAvoy.
At least one of Potsy/Lysell and Minten need to make this team next year and be solid on the third line and contribute offensively ( 20G / 30 assists).

Mitchell and Wotherspoon must be the worst dee pairing in the league. They have to go, or play in the AHL as depth pieces.

Offseason to do list
* get a number one center......the draft is the most realistic option here, hope we get a top 5 draft pick.
* sign two dee for our second pairing....Chychrun would be a great add as a UFA.
* add 2 x 20 goal plus on the wings.....Ehlers and Mangy would be at the top of my list. Duchene and Roslovic would be next.

I agree

But if sweeney screws up and doesn't get him top 6 talent then I think he will consider it

It’s all about next year. Minten, Lysell and Potrias. Possibly Merk too. They need to see what they have in these guys and not just one game. Like the remaining of the season. If any looks great and promising it just makes off season FA grabs easier and spend less money.
I have seen enough og Merk and Poitra, Lysell has not been given a chance, but I think many will be disappointed, and would almost bet money he will be somewhere else next year. Minton is definite for a look see, and hopefully we all like and enjoy it. The fans can get all excited about all the picks Donnie has this year, but hopefully they will be better than the AHL players he has now.
