I didn't have Aljo looking better defensively than Edvinsson late in the season on my bingo card.

Ed needs to shake his aloof defensive play he seems to slide into for stretches.

almost all the forwards don’t understand defense positioning. They get by through a relentless back check and disrupting forecheck. If they knew where to be to anticipate pucks they could cut down the work they go through skating around like lunatics

On caps first goal I think? Larkin just needs to know protect the front of the net on his back check and tie up sticks and that play probably never even materializes the pass is not an option. Instead he gets in the area waits for the first move then reacts too late to do anything

That's the hope for next season, a full camp and preseason under him. Not much he can really do taking over in late December. But Yzerman also has to do a lot of work because the flaws will still come out under any coach.

It’s frustrating because we were probably one good top 4 defensmen away from a wild card but does Yzerman care? At least we know what we got in our prospects. He insulated them just enough to not get buried. Is that intentional or does he suck at pro scouting? Are guys getting more out of defensmen and centermen in the 5M range? To me Yzerman hasn’t shown his hand yet for a guy who has made big swings in the past
