No kidding. He was so slow that he should have had 2 assists today. Add in all the back checking in the neutral zone. Can’t be slow to back check a Tampa player.
But after last season’s debacle I thought Sweeney and Neeley said we have to get bigger and tougher. What up with the speed and skill?

I think this team would fair well against any team in the playoffs if they play like they did today...and Swayman stays focused
love to see Coyle get the cup, and for hat matter Carlo, one negative would be Toronto.

I know. Things really bounced right in that game too. So are the hockey gods with us or actually against us trying to keep us from a top 5 draft pick? I don't know what to think.
The one thing you can say for sure is the people that were predicting the locker room would be destroyed by trading Marchand were dead wrong. That team had life. They do already look faster and there's more to come. Reminded me a little of a Finnish team style where there's less talent but everybody checks and plays that tight choking style of shut down hockey that frustrates the opposition. hence Jokiharju was a fit and did he actually make Zadorov better??? idk, Sabres fans told me he sucks, but to me he looked pretty good. Wait and see.
Mittelstadt was a little underwhelming but you can see the moments of skill and speed. Doesn't really finish his checks though. He might take time to adjust to this team. Hope he does.
So now won't it be the ultimate irony if they go on a run and make the playoffs and then Marchand scores a goal to eliminate them. Don't laugh, Washington sold off last year and then made it. It can happen.
It looks like he might play tonight. Interesting since Minton couldn’t last night.

The right and wrong attitude was established last summer, when he showed his true selfish, whinny, personality. All those trades yesterday, but they missed one.

I had to pause the game, just finished. That was fun! Tampa hasn't been shutout snce November 2023. Tampa was 11-1-1 going in to this game. Very satisfying win, just what the team and fans needed.

No (and I know you're joking) but the guys who said trading him would break the locker room were dead wrong. I still think he might be back next year as captain. This is why they won't name one this year. Leaving the door open. Captain will be named after July free agency.Marchand must have been toxic in that locker room
I'd forgotten about the Kastelic Lilligren thing. I think he ended that with a "we're even now" but bashed his hand on the helmet again unfortunately. Great game for him all around though.

Well that happened. Best the team has looked in quite some time, and the luck was finally all going their way. Good response from a group that's gone through a massive upheaval in the last few days. Tampa came into this half-asleep and clearly expecting to just breeze through, and paid for it.
Just taking these games one at a time now without any real thought to the longer-term narrative, which is kind of nice in its own way. This was a performance that showed some character and made for a fun watch. Good stuff. Let's see how they go in the next one.
