Yet instead, we saw a team (The Caps) killing the clock for 30 seconds CONSTANTLY to try and get the game to the Shootout.

That's their right. People are much more likely to remember the end of the game instead of something that happened in the middle. It's why, had the Devils lost in the shootout, this thread would almost certainly be taking issue with the choice of shooters.

Over here, barristers wear fancy wigs. Maybe you could start a trend?
Do I have to wear the long black dress also? I know that young folks today are not as beholden to tradition as those of us who grew up in the renaissance of the 1980s when the telescope was invented and people were worried Michael Douglas or Alan Rickman might sail off the edge of the world when they discovered the Bronx, but I'd feel odd wearing one.

Ties are garbage, and in a low-scoring environment they were much worse. There were 170 ties in the NHL in 2004 out of 1230 games, that's basically 1 out of every 7 games ending in a tie. The NHL could go back to having ties, but I can't imagine it ever happening - the shootout is better. It means the end of the game wasn't someone killing the clock for ten seconds.
But there's no way they'd have it go back to the old OT system: removing the shootout would come with, most likely, some form of extended emptier ice OT (4 on 4 for 5 minutes + 3 on 3 for another 5, or just straight up 3 on 3 for 7-10 minutes), plus we're no longer in the "no two line passes" era. Basically, the odds of that many games ending in ties in today's game seem vanishingly small. Get it to a point where the percentage of games ending in ties is below 5% and I think people wouldn't mind it so much.

Well I always take issue with the mere existence of this f'n Gimmick that belongs in the Allstar game instead of actual games that matter.

That's MY right. Nyaaah!
