We are seeing the difference between a Cup contender vs a playoff hopeful
Still a ways to go in building the team
I agree but would add another layer to it. It’s not just that they are cup contenders, much like TB they allow little time and space defensively. Some contenders such as Edmonton and Toronto play much looser defense allowing us to play more freely and competitively, that’s not the case against tonight’s team.

The league has a vested interest in a photo finish for playoffs. We're getting late whistles, embellished penalties getting called against us, and challenge denials tonight because we aren't supposed to get the win. A tense race drives clicks and eyeballs.

Our PK needs help. It's the only place where the refs can tilt the game against us. If we get that shop in order, the games won't be tilt-able and we'll break away by stealing points.

The good news is, adversity is good seasoning for the squad. The longer it goes, the more they learn the game within the game.

That's what makes them the real contenders, unlike the Leafs or Oilers or Devils. They neutralize your talent by taking away all the space, and they're just hunting us for turnovers, leading us into traps.

if you think the league is rigging the panthers’ domination, in particular, tonight then that’s beyond comical.

the nba/nfl can pass as ‘rigged’ leagues to many, but the nhl… not a chance and that’s the beauty of this sport/league.

like a poster said above, this is a varsity team vs a JV team. there’s a reason why the panthers were -310 going into this game to win.. that’s absurd. no team/game in this league has been more favored to win in a matchup against us than the panthers tonight.

I am once again asking to spread out the little talent we have across more than 2 lines, and to call up LDBB.

That would make sense if we only had 1 or 2 lines going tonight.

We have zero.

I know at least for the Oilers, when none of the lines are working, that's when you concentrate your talent to try and turn around the momentum with some big shifts.

The last two games coupled with the prices of what guys are going for has reignited my belief we should trade Provorov lol. We won’t do it, but we probably should

He's already declared that Provorov isn't getting dealt. I wonder if he's having any second thoughts, though. I would have made some moves. I would have taken a 1st for him - and understanding that team morale is important, I would have traded a 3rd or something for a Soucy type of guy (assuming a big upgrade for a Pelech type isn't available at the moment).

I don't think there's that much of a gap between Provorov and Soucy.

Nah, the refs don’t cause us to play in our zone all night or have 10 SOG through 2

?

That’s my point? We have 4-5 top 6 level players and they are all on lines 1 or 2. Thus, Barkov/Panthers can focus on the one good line. Second line is too slow to play together. Which is why we need to have more balanced lines and get someone into a matchup where they can have success/a chance.

Yeah that was not my point. Concentrate to break through when nothing is working - that's the typical play. Who knows maybe spreading it would work better. Personally though I don't think there's any line to exploit vs the Panthers.

And to my point, I think calling up LDBB allows for us to better arrange the talent in a more balanced lineup. He can play 3C competently imo.

IIRC, one of the biggest complaints by Wild fans against Evason was that he doesn’t change up his lines / make adjustments.
