Nah...that's not it

Larkin and Raymond have quit on the season. They had their fun at 4 nations, and are now ready for their offseason.

No points 4 straight games for either of them when we need them the most. Larkin has never stepped up in his career when games get tough
Larkin looks like he is a #2C again. I said I wish we had no players in that dumbass allstar game tournament.

2c is far too complimentary for what "the captain" has done. He looks like a beer leaguer.

People are gonna blame Yzerman, and the goalies, and compher and Copp, and the depth scoring...and Holl and Petry (who are plugs), but I'm blaming this collapse on 71 and 23. Way to show up when the team needed you guys

There's still a quarter of the season left. This is all a little premature

No it's not, it happens every year at this time and it's happening again

Raymond scored goal after goal in November and December, but recently he's been awful.. He's still on pace for a good season statistically, but you need your best players to elevate their game when games get more important, and he's done the opposite. He gets a pass because he's still young though

Larkin on the other hand though...ouch. he wears the C and gets paid the big bucks, but he's once again not leading the team anywhere. I'm seriously starting to doubt this guy as a leader.

Beauty goal by Soderblom. Sucks to lose, but Carolina is a better team, so 2-1 isn't too bad. Wish Lyon had stopped the first one and stayed in the net on the 2nd though.

Why does Todd still insist on Tarasenko out there in late game/pp trying to get a goal situations? He has done nothing all season with both coaches and Todd has seen that enough by now to know he just doesn't have it this season. Maybe he will be better elsewhere or next season, but this year he needs to be on the bench in those situations.

The same reason he still uses gustufson on the pp over ed. Play the kids! The useless vets just cost us games.

And I'll repeat my one criticism of Ed: he replies on his reach too much. Don't get me wrong, it's a great asset, it just shouldn't be the go to option. He needs to skate, be in good position, use his body, and then use his reach.

I think that's what frustrated me on the game winner in the outdoor game. Sure he was high sticked but he also lost position and was reaching. And then this game, he knocks the puck carrier over, the puck bounces free, Ed tries to gather the puck one handed while skating out of the zone... and loses a puck battle to the guy flat on his belly.

It just seems his instinct is to use his reach, not his bulk.

Larkin hasn't been great lately, but calling him dog shit and beer leaguer is way too harsh. 82 game seasons will have slumps from all players, and without Larkin and Ray we are nowhere close to a playoff spot to begin with, so maybe relax a little. We also know that Larkin plays hurt at some point in almost every season, which is also a great possibility of what is happening right now. The Wings problem isn't Larks and Ray, it is the consistent lack of help from others that we lack. The 2nd line has been great lately, but aside from Cat, Kane and whoever the center is, have had good stretches of bad play. Cat has been good most of this season though. Berggren isn't the answer either of moving him up, as he does very little aside from small bursts of some nice plays, he isn't playing well enough to deserve a bump. Soderblom on the other hand has been.

Also, Chiarot on the top pair is garbage, as while "fine" to some of you, he makes so very many bad plays at both ends, which would be fine if he were on the 3rd pair against lower competition, but not against the best players in the game for 20+ minutes a night. Tonight the one shift he weakly wrung it around the boards twice on the same shift getting it out neither time. No goal was scored, but just by good fortune. An all rookie 2nd pair also isn't great either as they fair enough will have their bad games.

Then we have the 'SIGH' Gus/HOLL problem. Steve needs some grief for letting Holl be in the lineup this long without making LITERALLY ANY MOVE to make a change. Every game that pair turns easy mundane plays into a circus.

I think give we Larks and Ray a break after being a main part of the cog of players keeping this team afloat all season, along with Mo and Cat.

I have to say, it’s pretty depressing watching them on the doorstep of the playoffs three years in a row only to piss it away.

Steve needs grief for not improving the blueline as far back as at least December when it was clear we were at least in the hunt of playoffs anyway. Nothing has been done, and I am a HUGE proponent and defender of Steve, but this is truly perplexing to me for what I consider a very good GM to not do anything at all. Trying is not good enough, a move needed to made long before Petry got hurt.

Tank has also really hurt us as well as he isn't providing any secondary offence at all even when others drive the play for him and he brings nothing else at all to the table, so he is essentially a 13-15 minute a night waste of time. I liked the signing at the time as a cheap secondary option and I expected about 40-45 points from him, but he has been invisible all year and hasn't even had any 4-5 game hot streaks, he has been invisibility all year.

Pretty hard for me to feel optimistic about the team at this point. In light of how this is mirroring the collapse last year, I wonder if we're seeing the lack of a locker room spark rear its head again. I do hope some actual roster surgery is done by Friday or at least this offseason.

Agree, it's hard to watch a team like Washington revamp their entire defense. It's gone from a weakness to strength over an off-season.

Difficult to be content with Yzerman's results in this aspect.

You mean relies, not replies, don't you?

Edvidsson was tripped, therefore he fell. It was a double penalty, tripping and high sticking.
However, Edvidsson is the biggest reason we have gotten good top 4 defence and are in possession to fight for the playoff spot

Considering we have one of the hardest schedules in the league the rest of the year I have a feeling losing streaks will get much more common. We really blew it by not replacing Fester sooner when we had the butter soft early schedule.

He can’t keep up with his man. He’s constantly chasing while his guy is running circles around him. Happened all game.
