It makes perfect sense. A shot on goal is one that would have went in if it wasn’t saved, which a shot on the post is not.

Yea I don’t get why people say goalies are lucky when it hits the post, it means they did their job and cut down the angles so much that the player would have missed even if there was no goalie there, they gave them nothing to shoot at
