Being below .500 when leading going into the third is real culture building stuff.

Zebras can go f*** themselves and Warsofsky should be in Goodrow's ear to running everyone if the Zebras aren't going to call anything.

I can't wait to hear how much of a loss Thrun is even though he is the worst Sharks Dman since Mirco f***ing Mueller.

Launch Thrun and Georgiev into the sun. We just can't afford to be a bad team AND have those types of boat anchors eating minutes that torpedo even good teams.

Will Smith rocks.
It'll be interesting to see what Grier does on the backend and in net with Askarov next season. I think Muk should be playing with Liljegren on the 3rd pair next season. Get a whole new top four next season. Again, I hope the Jets put a 1st on the table for Ferraro before the deadline. I'm thinking we'll be doing another Burroughs-Grundstrom type deal with Thrun at this rate. I have more confidence in Thompson as a #7 stepping in than Thrun but I still don't care that he's playing these minutes for the rest of this year. He's been called upon to assist the tank commander Georgiev and he's getting it done.

But Walman is also a boat anchor like problem when he's playing this way.

Walman is still an NHL defender, even at his lows. I get he hasn't been good lately and he definitely isn't the player he was to start the season, but he's still our best defenseman and a legit NHL guy.

We need three more top-4 defenseman and for the love of god, one needs to be at least borderline top pairing. We also need a decent backup who can split time with Askarov (~35 games). I was hoping Kevin Lankkinen would be available, but I guess not. Less worried about that than the defense.

I think I'll have to go back to my original claim that with Blackwood in hand, the Sharks would be several positions up in the standings. 25 one-goal games that the Sharks have lost....with Blackwood can't they at least go .500 for those?

Absolutely no confidence that Georgiev is going to stop a puck. It’s like the feeling we all had when Jones started to suck but multiplied by 10. He’s awful. Maybe there’s a goalie in there but there’s also a good shot he cannot find a job this offseason.

Thrun was terrible. He does have the ability to shrug off bad games though and get back to steady hockey.

However it has become abundantly clear that he is at his best a 7D/replacement defender on a winning team.

I agree he's NHL caliber and our best defenseman but I also get the hunch that if he's not the #1D, he will look even worse in a scaled back role because his A game is still below average defensively and his B or C game on that end is even worse. If he's not scoring, he's probably going to be a net negative. And I think I'd just rather get ahead of that since we need to make over the blue line pretty much anyway. If we pull off a miracle and sign even someone like Chychrun, I'd move both Ferraro and Walman, hope that one of Dickinson or Schaefer is ready for top four duties next year, and do that 3rd pairing. I'd rather a rookie torpedo a season learning than see what happens with Walman honestly. I'm still absolutely glad that trade was made. It was an obvious no-brainer positive but the quicker we move on, I think the better for the team.

Seriously. At least Jones was able of making big saves occasionally and was okay positionally, he just had a weak glove hand and the reaction speed of a toddler. But he gave up so many absolutely back-breaking softies from 30 feet out after 2016 that it honestly felt like literally any shot could and would go in. That's where I am with Georgiev. Vanecek is bad too, but not like that.

Thrun has a couple halfway decent games now and then where I don't notice him, but boy is he a rare defenseman who is capable of losing a game all on his own. The next game I see him play will be too soon. I honestly prefer both Vlasic and Thompson to him at this point, and I don't think either of those guys are good either.

I wouldn't be mad if we got value for Walman this summer, but I don't think that happens. I'd rather just hang on to him until the 2026 deadline. I know he's been bad lately, but have you noticed who is partner is? How can you expect a guy to play well with that iron ball attached to him.

Georgiev is the worst goalie I’ve ever seen on the Sharks. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he was first acquired, but he doesn’t even look like a pro goalie.

he's only keeping the backup's seat warm for 19 more games, then his contract expires and he'll likely end up in the KHL for the remainder of his career.

I think trading Ferraro would be a massive mistake considering we basically need like 5 new d-men. It's not gonna happen in one or two seasons and we still don't know if any of Sam, Mukh, Luca or Thompson can be longterm NHLers. Despite what many insist, Ferraro has been our best d-man for the last couple of months and I don't even think it's been particularly close.

Georgiev is as good as gone. There is no value to keeping him given how he's played like ass and the rumors of locker room strife in Colorado probably make him a risk to poison things if he sticks around.

Cap Wages' list of pending UFA goalies is:

Adin Hill
Charlie Lindgren
Karel Vejmelka
Jake Allen
Frederik Andersen
Ilya Samsonov
Alex Lyon
Dan Vladar
Jon Quick
David Rittich
Anton Forsberg
Jonas Johansson
Vanacek

I've omitted Georgiev and guys that likely wouldn't attract any attention (Fleury, who's retiring, guys who suck and would be out of the league and various low-end depth goalies of no consequence)

I'm not going to say there's an outstanding, really sexy name in that group. But all the team needs is a 1B/backup guy to be a safety net for Askarov. Samsonov, Lyon, Vladar, or Rittich could be interesting names.

And honestly if Vanecek is the fallback/plan B, that's not the end of the world. He's had a weird season because of the injury and his D is doing him no favors. I would not be surprised if a better team in front of him leads to better results in a less strenuous role.

I've come around on Ferraro - he has indeed looked a lot better so long as he's not being asked to play top minutes. If we replace Granny and add one D in the off-season, plus Asky Time, I think we hold onto a lot more leads next season (still think we'll be bottom 3-6 but hey, big improvement).

Ask yourself: would you trade our rebuild for the Habs after watching tonight? It's great news IMHO that I wouldn't even consider trading it and it goes a lot deeper than Celebrini. We've got a long way to go but an amazing start.

I've come around on Ferraro since his terrible skid earlier in the year.

If some panicky playoff team wants to toss a stupid good return at Grier because they need a depth defensive d-man, I wouldn't automatically say no, but I think going into next year with Ferraro, Walman, Liljegren, Mukhamadullin, 2 spots to fill (ideally two top 4, more realistically 1x top 4 and 1x 3rd pair) and I guess Vlasic as the 7th D wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

If nothing else Ferraro feels like a guy to inherit more of a leadership role once the team pulls the chute on keeping the C on Couture and hands it off to Celebrini.

Tough to say. They had a head start and frankly we don't have anyone on the roster like Caufield or Suzuki (proven young NHL talent at a new PPG pace or 30 goals), and a majority of their prospects haven't even made the NHL or just sniffed it (Demidov, Reinbacher, Fowler, Hage)

Frankly if it weren't for Celebrini I would swap prospect/young talent pools in a heartbeat.

If nothing else Ferraro feels like a guy to inherit more of a leadership role once the team pulls the chute on keeping the C on Couture and hands it off to Celebrini.
It's so massively disappointing what Vlasic has become both as a player on the ice and off. Ferraro is unquestionably our leader on the blue line and the kids seem to love being around him.

I think Georgiev probably isn't even good enough for the Kazakhstan Hockey League.

Edit: Oh, my bad...I didn't realize you meant Kiribati Hockey League. He'd be a solid 1B there.

If Grier gives Georgiev a contract, it would be a classic case of reputation being lost in buckets...

My guess is that to start the season, two of Cagnoni, Mukhamadullin, Schaefer, and Dickinson will be in the lineup. If anyone (probably only Schaefer) takes to the NHL very well, then you might have someone else come up. The injuries to Mukhamadullin were unfortunate; I think the hope was he'd be a solid, reliable bottom-pairing guy by the end of this season, and then next season you could try moving him up a little.
