If it mattered more (i.e. if the Sharks were in a playoff race), I'd be really annoyed about that 4v4 right now. As it is, I'm only mildly annoyed.
With any kind of puck luck, Mack could have 30 goals instead of 18.

So from a detached standpoint, our team really lacks muscle. Throughout the lineup, they get pushed off pucks and boxed out. Hopefully some "man strength" just naturally develops and that should improve things in and of itself.

Desperately need a young power forward not a high mileage Toff. But supposedly that’s what Chernysov projected to be, I think when Muhk fills out he’s likely to be Tyler Meyers which will bring that to the blue line, so they are in the pipeline

Funnily enough, I thought Smith had one of his better physical games. He was actually contesting puck battles rather than easily being moved out of the way.
I really can't understand where the coaching staff's hype for Thrun has come from. I think he could be a solid D man, but they're really pumping his tyres up to a level I don't think he could ever achieve. Prime example, in the third period Mack's line generates some good zone time and the puck gets to Thrun. He sends a half ass shot, which Flames pick off easy to transition down the ice. Thrun then retrieves a puck, has an easy play to reverse back behind net, instead he panic-flips the puck and gives away a Delay of Game.
No one can tell me that Thrun earned that ice time then - I really think you could give Mukh and Thompson more responsibility in that time and they would be much more reliable and offer more. They're not going to send a soft shot to picked off, they're not panicking in their own zone, etc.

Only the second game I didn't get to watch live (obviously beer league is more important).
Based on the discourse, I was very surprised to see the game card. Thrun very high. To me these kinds of results just go to show that advanced stats are useful writ large, but any one game may have a lot of noise. Or, universally, we are bad as a group at evaluating.
More likely noise than every person here failing to get a good eye test.

Mukh was good. Thompson had some rough moments. I'd like to see Mukhamadullin with Walman instead of Thrun at this point.

Anyway here's the game card. The Sharks actually deserved better in this one.
It was a solid competitive game from the group. If Thrun didn't commit the DOG penalty, he would've had at least an okay enough game for what they're asking of him but the hold cost them a goal and the DOG cost them any real chance at pressuring for a tying goal. With Liljegren getting hurt, it's going to be interesting to see who gets to play with Ferraro and get some top four minutes. Muk looked better than Thompson but Thompson is probably a better fit for Ferraro especially against Winnipeg where they're going to see a lot of pressure. I think I'd rather keep Muk on the 3rd with Vlasic and elevate him from time to time.

Yeah, man. The fact is, no matter how good Celebrini is or how we play with the forward lines or what system we run, this defense will always kill us. I want it dismantled and replaced with something entirely new. I’d keep Walman and Muhk on the current lineup, the rest, I don’t really care.
But yeah, it’s brutal.
Rutta would be nice to have about now but I'm not sure if his injury will let him see action on this road trip which would lead right up to the trade deadline. If he doesn't get back in, it's hard to see him getting traded.
