It does though - if you don't trust your goaltender you second guess everything. You don't play with as much creativity. You hesitate. You cheat for defense.

This leads to you defending more in general, and it keeps to you not generating as much on your chances because you are worried if you turn it over, it goes in your net every single time.

Leeds to you just generally gripping your stick and not playing loose and on instinct.

A McDavid and a Draisaitl can score through that, because they're generational talents. A Hyman, Nuge, RV, Skinner, etc? They'll be snake bitten.

There's also a huge psychological boost when your goalie keeps you in a game - you know you let him down and that he deserves better, you go out and execute for him in the key moments of the game. If your goalie just let's everything in, you give up, the games over, go next.

It's like I said - when teams with atrocious goaltending upgrade their goaltender their entire game gets better. The AVS this year generate 0.7 more xGF per game since acquiring Blackwood, and allow 0.6 less xGA. And you know - they statistically get the actual saves. And again - this happens every time teams with bad goaltending get better goaltenders.
so Arvidsson, who has never played here, signs here, and shows up and plays like crap from day 1, because he doesn't trust Stu and Picks? really? ok.

Bouch goes 1 on 3, and makes bonehead choices and moves, and turns over the puck in horrible places because he doesn't trust Stu and Picks? come on!

i agree, the Oilers goalies are from good enough, and the was this team is built, and the way the $$ in allocated and divided up based on position is flawed.

I also agree that the players have basically given up on their goalies at this point, but come on, there is no way you can blame the goalies for every issue on this team, that's insane.

this team has lots of issues, is goaltending #1? yes. for sure it is, but you could add Connor Hullebuyck to this team right now, and it would not be enough to fix this team. It won't make Arvidsson a good fit in our top 6, it won't fix Bouch's brain farts, it won't make RNH look like he did 2 years ago, and so on and so on.

Lots of problems with this team right now, way too many to fix with one guy in net, or to fix by the trade deadline.

It doesn’t even necessarily need to be a better goalie.
Players lose trust in their goalies and the team as a whole suffers. A 900 goalie you have no trust in is worse for your team than a new 900 goalie you don’t hate yet b

100% - it's also why usually teams get a boost when they change goaltenders.

I mean our goaltending has been a standard deviation below league average all season, often letting in weak goals. It's not rocket science.

The AVS quit on Georgiev who had better stats then Skinner after 15 games.

How on earth did this team make the SCF last year?

Once in 3 decade performances from a forward and D. Miracle coaching adjustments that somehow worked every time. PK fortunes that may never be seen again.

Kings, Canucks, Dallas was probably the best run to the finals you would hope for in our conference too. Not having to face Vegas or Colorado was huge.
