I personally don’t want the season to end on game 82 and then spend every day until October watching this list and media outlets for news that we have made some monster trade - only to find out we didn’t. Even a first round pick rarely means an instant roster player. It is more like a 3 year investment that may or may not payoff. I would rather Elias Lindholm play like a former 42 goal scorer, have Coyle get back into his 25 goal form, schedule a wake up call for Zacha’s goal scoring, and have Carlo play better d. That is not all, but it is a start. I would pay cash money if they would quit the pp entry that either stops momentum by dropping the puck back on the entry, or tries to give the puck to a guy standing still just inside the blue line. Also, you can’t play a pp with your faces pinned to the boards. Control the puck and move it.
If that all happen, then you'd wake up, hell if half of that happened!

I don't get this line of thought.

What makes that time frame any different in terms of wanting to see your team in the playoffs?
If they’ve got the horses to make the playoffs with what they have, great. I want them to win every game.

Do I want them to add at the deadline to improve our chances? Heck no. This team isn’t 1-2 moves from contending. I’m looking to move assets if the offer is fair and seeing how our few remaining prospects handle the opportunity to step up.

Big Big game today a must win,if the Bruins plan on making the playoffs. No really it is just like the last half dozen games before this one, and the half dozen after this one. Its not going to change bruins are stuck in a neutral of a 5-6 team race for the final 2 playoffs spots. Sweeney saying he has to wait and see what approach he going to take is horse-shit because things are'nt going to change, he needs to be pro-active and start selling. imo the shipped has sailed on being a buyer.

Marchand is likely going to be in top form today.

He wants the four nations badly. This is his last chance to rep Canada and he probably wants it more than most guys at that tournament.

A lot of the guys from his generation got the chance to do it at the olympics. Crosby, Bergeron, Toews, etc. Marchand never got that chance because by time he really hit his stride, the NHL stopped going. Then he was robbed of the chance in 2022 when the league probably rightfully decided to pull out of it again.

Hard to imagine seeing him make the 2026 squad, but i suppose weirder shit has happened.

I hope the Bruins win and I hope they make the playoffs, I still can't imagine cheering against them and hoping they fail. There is so much more going on in the real world, if I can have some fun and feel happy when they win, I'll take it. Of course I would love to see another Cup win in my lifetime but more hockey in the spring is good with me any season, bring it on, win or lose.

So....GO BRUINS!!!!!!

It's only the best if your team isn't shit and getting beaten from pillar to post and sent home after four games. If missing is in service to building something better? I'm good with that. I'd rather they miss the playoffs by (partial) design to retool than to miss trying to get in and wasting assets to do it.

What I don't want is to see as a fan is the team plodding along the next few seasons in bubble mediocrity until the bottom finally falls out.

Let me add a thought: I don't think a re-tool is definitively giving up on the playoffs, just that getting in is not the main goal. Of course we hope the during the retool of a couple seasons or so that team does manage to get in, but it's a different look and feel than status quo with some depth adds trying to keep the band together, no?

Sure, but that's extremely rare.

I hate to use this as an example but, remember the Florida Panthers in 22-23 were not that great during the regular season (92 pts) going into the playoffs and they took out the #1 seed Bruins with the best NHL record in history: 65-12-5 (135 points) Finished 1st overall in the NHL.

Never give up hope on your team. Anything can happen in sports.

Florida Panthers
Won Conference Finals (4-0) over Carolina Hurricanes
Won Second Round (4-1) over Toronto Maple Leafs
Won First Round (4-3) over Boston Bruins

To prove that the NBA's top team getting knocked out of the playoffs wasn't a fluke, the NHL did the same Sunday night.

The Florida Panthers, the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference who clinched a playoff spot when two other teams lost, shocked the hockey world by tying Game 7 late in regulation, then beating the top-seeded Boston Bruins 4-3 in overtime.

The Panthers knocking out the Bruins in a stunned TD Garden came four days after the No. 8 Miami Heat eliminated the NBA's top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in five games.

How shocking was the series' result?

"The improbable has just happened here on Boston ice," TNT announcer Darren Pang said.

Exactly. They do this then I am ok with missing the playoffs.

Marchand is a lock for 2026 as long as he's healthy.
