Well, I am not going to defend him, and I know he does plays hard, but he is not the player he once was, and is not adjusting his game to his game today not 5- 10years ago. I have said before easy to be a leader when everything is going well, but much harder, when they are not. Chara was a real captain and leader.

Yep, On the game winner instead of just one timing the pass, he was thinking get the puck to Pasta and next thing he knew the puck was heading the other way.

But he has been there for a while before last night. And he didn't even play 10 minutes last night.

Beecher was a legit prospect looked at going anywhere between 30-45 in the 2019 draft. He was stuck behind Hughes and Turcotte on the USA U18 squad. With his size, speed and FA ability plenty of teams considered him a possible late bloomer.

Adding to that he was named two years in a row to the US Jr. Team including the eventual Gold Medal Team but got Covid and missed the tourney. His D-1 US Jr stats in the '20 WJC showed 0-0-0 but his zone exits and entrances were top 6
amongst the forwards. The previous summer at the US Summer Showcase the
media (Mark Morreale) raved about him as a steal.

He hasn't developed any offensive game and is what he was in 2019. Fast, big,
good on FA and no offensive ability. Boston was hoping Beecher would be Roope Hintz light.

I think this is right- size, speed, FO ability, which is what he's shown in his time here. He is okay on the defensive side of the puck, too. But, guys that don't really score at lower levels don't turn into scorers in the NHL. I am curious what they saw that made them think they could get some offense out of him (like even a 25-30 point guy). Either way, it never has clicked. I'd be happier with him if he was a 3rd or 4th rounder doing what he's doing; that would make him a great pick. To this point, he's a quasi-bust as a first rounder.

Whenever the Bruins needed a spark, he brought it. Usually a huge hit or rag-dolling someone who deserved it.

Getting a roughing penalty against the other team's goalie in the 3rd period with a one goal lead is a smart penalty?

It was very minimal contact and he was legitimately driving toward the net to make a play on the puck. He takes dumb penalties but I really don’t think that’s one of them. The two biggest factors are there are a. Driving to the net and b. Getting zero benefit of the doubt because the name is “Marchand” on the back of the uniform.

I also have a difficult time blaming him too much for a penalty that I’m guessing few other guys would have been callled on. It was very minimal contact and he was legitimately driving toward the net to make a play on the puck. He takes dumb penalties but I really don’t think that’s one of them. The two biggest factors are there are a. Driving to the net and b. Getting zero benefit of the doubt because the name is “Marchand” on the back of the uniform.

There's a good reason for that.

Though he did get the benefit of the doubt after he got out of the box and berated the ref who made the call. Most guys go right back into the box when they do that.

If you think about it, maybe Foligno should still be here, sometimes the room might be more important than speed.

I know drafting is far from a science but how does a guy with that much of a negative in the offensive column go that high? Hands of stone killed many a kids i grew up with dreams of playing anything beyond bantam, yet it somehow didn't for Beecher?

Beecher is 27th in Goals amongst forward taken in the 2019 draft and 32 in points, that isn't remotely a late round pick.

He made the USA Jr Team 2 ears in a row but missed a Gold with Covid in 21.

I didn't see anyone post Marchand sucks? His antics do suck and IS a problem.

It was not a strong draft overall, but there were some players taken after Beecher that would have been better. It's a moot point, though.

There comes a time when you have to stop blaming the coaches, well I agree changes need to be made, but it all needs to start with Sweeney. It will be 4 coaches in 4 years, not if, but when he replaces Sacco, how much longer will they let this guy continue to pass the buck ?

He has good size and maybe the best wheels on the team, and probably the best, or close to the best everywhere he's played. I would say that is a big part of it. He never really has been a point producer, though, so yeah, it's kind of a mystery why Sweeney took him the first. He plays like a 4th rounder that you are happy managed to get that far.

We can break that down further if we want, though it may not matter, but there were 15 forwards taken in front of him, so that means he is has been outscored by 11 taken after? And he has just 34 points in 110 games, and really, most of this season he has been an offensive black hole. I think late round is wrong (I read it as later round), if we mean 5-7th, but certainly if he were a third rounder or fourth even, he would have been a steal. He is definitely not a steal at 30. I think it's fair to question the pick even though it is academic- he's our guy like it or not (for now).

What I am mostly curious about is what in his history made anyone think he could be Roope Hintz lite? And that's an honest question because obviously some scouts saw something there, as did Don Sweeney.

That hardly ever works out. It's either to make a guy a better skater at 20 than it is to make him a more creative and skilled player at 20. If you aren't creative against teens, you aren't going to be creative against men.

30 in points. He drew platitudes amongst some media at the 2020 US Sumner Showcase (Mark Morealle called him a steal) and was named to consecutive

Not saying there's not a "good reason" for it. As I said, he takes dumb penalties. And invites the attention. But, in the context of trying to make a play and the fact that he was playing a hard game all night long, I'm not upset with him about that particular penalty.

Frankly, I thought the Bruins were lucky to be in that game all the way through. They were being outplayed, IMO, from puck drop. Given that, I find it forced to pick at any particular moment and assign blame to that play and/or player.

He's a good skater but I really don't see any other notable asset. He's really good at getting into position to make something happen and then doing nothing with it.

It's a slightly more intense version of how I feel about Lohrei on the back end sometimes. Not lacking on physical assets but lacking on thinking the game at the highest level. It's like the opposite of David Pastrnak who can have a terrible game where he is moving terribly (hasn't had one of those in a good while), but still will put up points just because he has a fantastic sense of the right area to get to (plus a great one-timer).

He also stayed out wayyyyy too long on that PP when the shorty was scored.

Not sure why Poitras stopped skating on that backcheck either. Him doing so gave Kreider that extra step.

Once again, another boring game to watch.

This team needs some serious structure, I don't think anyone knows where or what they should be doing.

Maybe Peeke and Wotherspoon as well.
