Finding an upgrade for Holl would do wonders for this team.

They dream is to find someone who will allow Chiarot to move down off the top pairing. And I say that as someone who thinks he gets too much grief here.

He's doing a serviceable job but is playing above where he should be. Get some combination of Seider, Ed, Johansson and a legit #3/4 guy and that's a solid blueline. Chiarot should look great as a bottom pair/PK who can also eat more minutes if something happens.

Just watched the highlights for funsies. I stick by my contention that the team was tired (and excusably-so) but they did enough to take the 2 points and had some really fun moments doing it.

I had no expectations for Bloomers this callup but dayum. He can't be sent back down, can he?

Burgers same. He's looking pretty solid to me.

Tank? Tank... Tank.

Man it's been a fun 2025 so far!

Chiarot's been really good IMO and Ed-AlJo is working out fine. Apart from injury necessity or the team going through a slump that endangers playoff chances I doubt there will be any change to the top four. They do need another guy with Petry out, if possible someone who can play up if a change is needed. There's never been much evidence that management or coaches are as negative about Chiarot as many fans are. Todd must trust him because the first pair is one of the few places that hasn't been experimented with.

From some of the things Pete mentioned about Chia being in Lalonde's ear, I kind of feel like he needs a tough vet coach that will tell him:

1) you are not a dman that can carry a pair
2) we are putting you with a better dman who is the person responsible for offense on your pair, you are to play simple D whenever possible.

Then said coach needs to bag skate him or bench him if he doesn't listen. When Chiarot keeps things simple he isn't an awful dman. He is pretty physical in front of the net, has an ok shot from the point, skates decently. The problem is when he thinks he is the 2nd coming of Paul Coffey and makes his much better partner have to constantly lay back. If Todd can keep him in check he is an ok option with Seider for the time being. I would like a better partner for Seider starting next year, but I am not pro spending big time assets on a trade deadline rental.

It's abit sad that this is the bar we set for a defenseman being paid 3.4M. But yeah, i agree. He had a invisible night, which is the best we can hope for.
Holl? He has improved. He even saved a goal. He played perfect 3 on 1.
I think DDK shows great promise. He's not awkward just reserved. Remember how bad Ozzy was at first? I think in about a year DDK will loosen up and be gret.
I thought exactly the same. Ozzie was exactly the same

Wow. Fellas. Had a dream that the Wings swept the trip, are on a 7 game heater, and have pulled within 6 points of the Panthers.

Oh.

Oh my.

Holl has not improved. 3 or 4 of his shifts were just chaos as per usual when he and Gus are out there.

Basically, and I am paraphrasing, that he was demanding that he could anchor his own pair and that was the reason Seider and Ed were together even though Ed had shown last year that he could anchor a pair more effectively than Chia could.

I really think Chiarot thinks he is a better dman than he really is. Like when he plays a simple game he isn't a bad shut down guy. But he thinks his puck skills are better than they are and that he can cover for a partner when in fact he cannot against good competition. The only pairing he should anchor is a 3rd pair. He is a bit of a transition nightmare. He can't make an outlet pass very well which leads to either him turning over the puck directly, tossing it up the boards & giving it back, or icing the puck. He's ok once he's in the offensive zone as his shot is decent and he can complete short passes, but anything long his accuracy is way off.

I thought there was also a hint he played a part in pushing hard for Walman to be moved, but I might be pulling that from somewhere else.

I think we make it this year. Team is well determined and motivated under Todd.

However, I can only imagine what kind of disappointment we are due in the first round :)
