Years ago, I saw an interview with a former Pens exec (I wish I could remember who) and he fully admitted to them tanking to draft Mario. He admitted to making personnel moves so they'd finish last. Mario saved that franchise. They were on the verge of folding.
This is what happens, especially when a generational talent comes along. Teams tank!

When I worked there in high school we had to wear these cowboy hats to promote some new steak thing they were doing (I think it was the steak & cheese panini re-launch... the old one with the mozza and onions and garlic aioli sauce was way better) and it's still the dumbest campaign I've ever seen in my life
