Ouch..... any team with Stevie Heinz on it still gives me a cold shudder that lingers. Add in a dose of Swoop and I need to be near a bathroom.

I did like characters like Kyle McLaren and young Joe Thornton. Nasty Joe was super fun and unpredictable until he slipped while Lindros was throwing a haymaker. Changed him forever in my book.

Went to 2 SC Finals with Sweeney playing regularly. Both these players were
3rd or 4th round picks and had careers, so I think you can look at guys like Rob Cimetta as underachiever and cold shoulder problems...lol.

Did you miss the part where he's finished top 5 in Norris voting prior to this season?

Of course not, now tell me the times he did it without Bergeron elevating him.

Fair enough ,but I have a hard time using word core with this mess.Your not building nothing that can compete in todays NHL without a legit top line centre .I had enough of the Don Sweeney vision.

I’d agree on that, but don’t think tearing down to find the center is worth losing everything else, cus they’ll probably be in the same spot they’re in now or worse.

Look at teams that have been rebuilding for around 5-10 years (Senators, Red Wings, Sabres, Habs, Flyers, Ducks, Sharks etc.) trying to find those pieces.

A core is just a select few players that are locked up and are good enough to build around. Bruins have those in Mcavoy, Swayman and Pasta. Those players are typically top 5-10 in the position groups, seems fair to consider them part of a core.

Now is that core good enough, I’d say no. I’m not tearing down to rebuild though, will take too long to find those pieces again. Retool sure.

McAvoy is not a top 10 d man. He is more top 20 and falling.

Having a bad year yes. Over his time in the league he is easily a top 10, maybe even top 5.

Most overrated #1 D man in the NHL. Elevated beyond his worth by Chara & Bergeron. Should have traded him in '23 when they still had control. Still would trade him to NYR for Schneider, Kreider and NYR '25 #1.

They better get that top line centre before those players age out then.Those teams you mentioned have not gotten it right as you have said but some of them at least have some fantastic young talent to watch play.Anyhow, I enjoy talking hockey here with everyone and hearing the different takes on things.

If you think this team has any shot of advancing past the 1st round of the playoffs (if they even make it) then you are on absolute crack. This team can't score, can't defend...I Iook at the roster and I amazed how we got here. It's going to be a looooong rebuild of mediocrity. Buckle up. When they play good teams they get their taints kicked in. It looks like varsity vs JV.

Hope you are right,but I see it a bit differently .They are slow and lack scoring which starts with no top line centre.That makes it alot easier to match up against them.They also get very little scoring from that back end.This is not even talking about breakdowns in own end.Be interested to see what the brain trust thinks heading into February towards March deadline.

I think the current defensive pairings are terrible - It could be more than that, but Peeke and Zadorov look awful together, and Lorei and McAvoy don't really make any sense as a pair. Those two play an agressive attacking, higher risk game and need a more stable partner. I think McAvoy also tries to do too much when he doesn't trust his d partner and that gets him in trouble.

Difficult game to watch. The energy in the building was non existent except for the quick moment they tied the game at 2. They just don’t have it. Winnipeg toyed with them. It’s time to reshuffle the deck.
