He and Meier would be / have been the only guys I wanted at the deadline. Anyone else would likely be / have been a rental. Gotta think long term of thinking about giving up meaningful assets.

If the rangers decide or have already decided VK is not the man for 3RW it makes sense to bring in a solid bottom six guy. They can do that once the big guys move and prices drop though. There are a lot of guys like that on the market.
