I think there's also the element that in drafting you get to pick your guy.
In free agency the player has to decide to accept the deal you offered over several other team's offers.

3 points in his last 4 games, not that I expect him to produce, but he’s been much more noticeable since Shine joined the lineup. Maybe that was his wake up call.

Let's get a quick goal to start the third. Calgary is getting frustrated they haven't scored yet. Another goal and they will get chippy and give up.
Tank is giving his nickname a new meaning. He tanks every line he’s on. Copp with Kane and Debrincat somehow makes that line passable. Tank’s incompetence just creates a massive drop off.

I get that he's about as unremarkable offensively as a player could be, but I disagree anything would be better. With Compher out, Copp is the only other guy who can reliably take and win faceoffs.
He eats big minutes, wins faceoffs, kills penalties. The kids just aren't ready to do that yet. Kasper is succeeding at wing. and I don't think it's a good idea to throw Danielson into 2c.
Copp is 2c by default but he's functioning as the placeholder he is while the kids develop.
If I was Yzerman I'd honestly start paying other teams' goons to fk w Soderblom. Cheap shot him, talk s--- to him all night, fight him on national television..

Dude he pasted someone on the boards in the first. Why do you want to turn Soderblom into a goon? His line has had the puck most of the time they’ve been on the ice.
